I Saw You in the Crowd... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'll let y'all know right now there will be no issue Friday. I'll be away for New Year's, and won't get back till late. Sorry, poor lonely Kyle, plunking away on your guitar, oh so very alone away up in Maine in a cold dark apartment, with nothing to eat but stale cheese rinds and tomato soup. Hope you make it to DC. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Openers? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ does anybody know who's opening for the femmes in seattle? who's been opening for them lately? anybody noteworthy? just curious matthew thewordisbeef ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I Saw You in the Crowd... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sorry I'm a bit late on these topics but I've been a little busy lately. I have a few thoughts to add to the social commentary/intelligence & fan appreciation issues. First, thanks Jeffrey for sharing your views with us. "The Femmes don't do social commentary" & "Gordon doesn't posses the type of intelligence for..." ??? I couldn't disagree more with your conclusions but I think you made some interesting points nonetheless. Honestly, I can't think of a better example of "social commentary" than "World We're Living In" or "Lies" and since you rejected both of these examples from other posters I am curious how old you are? I can't help but wonder whether it's just a matter of you having heard these songs past their "freshness date." Certainly hearing a song about aids in 1998 is much less enlightening and thought provoking than it would have been had you heard it for the first time a decade ago. I think "wake up in the stars with the skies in our eyes" is the single greatest lyric of all time. But see that's just it guys - I think that. Jeffrey thinks the Femmes are fun because they play a tune you can hum. Jeffrey said he'd never seen the Femmes live so I will assume that means he's never met them and yet we live in a country where he feels that simply because he's purchased part of what they do to earn a living he can make an assumption as to the level of Gordon's intellect. Damn! Talk about your social commentary. Hey do you all remember the woman who stalked David Letterman? Did you know she ended her life by laying down in front of a train? Sad but true. Sadder still - did you know it took less than 2 weeks for another "fan" to begin stalking Mr. Letterman? So, nickparr, after a show last week Gordon is approached by a total stranger. He signs a few autographs and makes a little chit-chat before he excuses himself? Hmmm... sounds like his intellect is A-ok to me. Hey don't get me wrong. I forget my place and get caught up in the music sometimes too - I mean I'm absolutely certain I saw you in the crowd is about me but then maybe I'm just reading too much into it! :o) Deana ddearry ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
