Says: Let's hear how other people misinterpreted VF lyrics. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Re: Yahoo Club ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hey Kathryn, I would like to clearify something. I am NOT a female. It is my parents fault that they named me Jamie, not my choosing, My REAL name is James, and I go by Jamie. But your thought is not the first. I meet my girlfriend on a blind date, and she is a bi, and she thought she was going to be with a girl. (boy was she surprised!). That is all. Jamie/James McGuinn i_eimaj ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My Homepage ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hi all :) I am just working on my homepage and was wondering if you could post me sight addys for Femmes:) Pretty please :) All you people groove on and be happi :) Smilyaus ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RE: Other Bands, Unofficial Site ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Joel asked: >I was wondering >what other bands you guys listen to. I want to enlarge my cd collection >but i don't know what to buy. any suggestions? I like femmes kind of >music (what ever you want to call it) and I like punk. I like pretty >much everything but rap Well, any Femmes fan who hasn't checked out They Might Be Giants has to have his head in a loaf of bread, so I won't mention them. (But they rock!) Besides the Femmes, I like a lot of what my friends call "Lesbian Folk Music." It's damn good stuff -- Ani DiFranco, Indigo Girls, Tracy Chapman. Joan Osborne and Jewel are right on the edge of this border, but they fall more into "Chick Music." I'm a sucker for female vocalists. (P.J. Harvey, 10,000 Maniacs, and, yes, even Alanis and Sheryl Crow.) I also like Cake, Cracker, Morphine, Cub and Barenaked Ladies (in a couple senses of each). Also, I've always found that a lot of country music appeals to some of the same sensibilities in me that like the Femmes. I especially like Randy Travis, Patsy Cline and Hank Williams (senior only). And when it comes to rap ... M.C. 900-Foot Jesus and Cypress Hill are worth looking at even if you don't normally like that type of music. And in Jazz, the more recent and mainstream stuff from Ellis, Wynton and Delfeayo Marsalis are great ... as well as Cassandra Wilson and classics like Ella Fitzgerald and Dave Brubeck. (I'm not into the more free-flowing jazz.) And one last thought ... when I was in high school and would mention the Violent Femmes to friends, they would always confuse them with The Smiths, which got me more into the Smiths (even though I own none of their albums) and now, Morrissey. ("Viva Hate" is my favorite album of his.) That's a start. I'm 25, so I'm sure that I'm not up on the last 6 years of music or so ... to me, all the new bands could be the same one (Third-Eye Matchbox Collective Bush). My roommate is slightly younger than me and introduced me to bands like Spiritualized and Slipstream ... "Spuh" bands, he calls 'em ... good psychedelic stuff. Anyway, I've rambled enough. I'd be interested in hearing others' favorites. --James P.S. For those of you waiting for an update on the unofficial site, I swear it will happen soon. (Before February.) CD's that I would recommend that someone buy would be: Van Morrison - Moondance: I love this CD I listened to it the entire time I was in Milwaukee my favorite track off of it is "Into the Mystic" "We were born before the wind..." Duke Ellington & John Coltrane: Two great jazz musicians. There isn't going to be anyone like these two ever again. Plus it's total make out music. This CD and a cheap bottle of wine...oh yeah!! Beethoven Symphony No. 9 "Alla Gioia" - Clockwork Orange anybody? Rocky Horror Picture Show Soundtrack - now there are two versions of this the Partici... (Say IT)...pation version and the version with just the music. If you haven't seen the movie get the version with just he music. And then drive your parents crazy with the "Time Warp" Type-O-Negative Bloody Kisses: Oh yeah I love this CD. It makes me feel all bad. Black No. 1, Christian Woman, Bloody Kisses (A Death in the Family), total bad girl music. Tool Opiate: The hidden track at the end of this CD is hilarious. It reminds me off the people who come into the bar I work at. "I had a friend who took some acid and thought he was a fire truck." Those are the ones I would recommend. I listen to them all constantly. Although I must admit that my CD collection also needs updated. It's been a while since I bought any new CD's. Kathryn Kittricken ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RE: Other Bands ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ amusic,.Internet writes: >I was wondering >what other bands you guys listen to. pixies, modest mouse, sonic youth, tom waits......yum yum Kyle_Souza ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RE: Other Bands ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In response to the message asking us what other bands we like, well I also listen to: Korn, Sonic Youth, 3EB, Madness and Fiona Apple. Now that I think about none of those bands(or singers) and the Violent Femmes sound nothing alike. They are all totaly diffrent... weird. I also would like to say the Acoustic Christmas line-up for both nights sucks. It's been much better in the past. Later, Bombastic Bob Pouder pouderthesexgod ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RE: Other Bands ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ hey this is actually my first time writing in, but i'll try to give you some of my picks. The band and then their album. The Rentals (Return of the Rentals) are kinda like the femmes i guess. Mustard Plug (Evildoers Beware) is a pretty good ska album. Both Weezer albums are also great picks. Well I can't think of any others that pertain to your tastes, so..... Sean Shay8681 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RE: Other Bands ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Well, Joel, since you want to be well-rounded musically, get Orff: Carmina Burana, and Berlioz:Symphonie Fantastique. Some Kurt Weill. Then to jazz it up a bit, go out and find some Bix Biederbecke, Miles Davis, Scatman Crothers, Duke Ellington. Color it Blues with Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Koko Taylor, John Lee Hooker, Buddy Guy...oh just go wild with the blues. I could mention 20 or so people. Then get into the roots of Rock with Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, LITTLE RICHARD, Kinks, EARLY Who. Skip most of the 60's, because I don't think you'd really like a lot of it, but you could give Janis Joplin and the Doors a try. I won't even mention the Beatles; they go without saying. OK, moving on, you have to get some Lou Reed, Neil Young, Jonathan Richman (start with his first, Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers), Jim Carroll Band, I still have a soft spot for Jethro Tull, Talking Heads, TOM WAITS. Moving into 70's Punk and that whole early 80's thing: Ramones, Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, Richard Hell and the Voidoids, New York Dolls, 999, X, Slits, Buzzcocks, Gang of Four, Germs, Fear, Clash, Cramps (I recommend Psychedelic Jungle), UMM I suppose I should say I still like REM's Murmer (but good luck finding it), Lone Justice, Jesus and Mary Chain, Pogues, Social Distortion, Suicidal Tendancies, Replacements. OK, newer stuff: Reverend Horton Heat, Brian Setzer Orchestra, Pixies, Poster Children, Killing Joke, Fugazi, Therapy? (start with Nurse), TMBG (get Flood), Ween (Chocolate and Cheese), Beck, Dada, Levellers, PJ HARVEY, Pixies, Tool. I like Black 47 a lot, but you might not, Dink, Primus, Butthole Surfers (well, they've been around for a long time, mid 80's anyway). I'm sure I've forgotten some great stuff, but this will get you started. -Pat. amusic ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Black Girls ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Does anyone think that Black Girls is a disgraceful song? An insult to black girls and white girls, white boys and black boys alike? Plus a scandalous insult to those who cherish religous beliefs? scrawbzy ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
