Shame on Pat. I May Be From Canada But.... NME Review of Freak Magnet Viva Winsconsin Is in My CD Player RE: Sleepwalkin' RE: Sleepwalkin' This and That A Perfect Night in London ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Unofficial Femmes Site Down ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A note to let you know and a warning to other people hosting copies of Mike Merryman's original unofficial Femmes site: I left my job in Las Vegas in mid-October, but had an arrangement to leave the vf.lasvegasweekly.com site up indefinitely. Well, the other day, someone politely mailed the owners of the domain requesting that a copyright article (reprinted from an online source) be linked to instead of reprinted. We decided that, since I don't have the time or connectivity to go through and fix any possible copyright infringements on the site, we would take it down. If anyone else is hosting a copy of Mike's site, they might want to check it for copyright articles and photos ... and make sure each piece is legal and not infringing on someone's copyright. For reference, here is a part of the mail: >>The article appears at the following link: >>http://vf.scopemag.com/Articles/anchor.txt Which is, of course, no longer there, but that would be where the article is in the Merryman site image. >>Please inform them that they are welcome to post a link to my page, at: http://cridder.com/morgue/press/music/femmes.html ... which is a very good idea. Just thought I'd let everyone know. When I get connectivity at home, I will review the site and redesign it if there seems to be a need. However, it seems to me that someone else was hosting a copy of the Merryman site and have probably done more with keeping it up-to-date than I have. Thanks! --James jameswelborn ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ KROQ Give-Away ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ KROQ announced that all next week they will give away 5 copies of the new CD during the flashback lunch (12 PM- 1PM) And on Friday the Femmes will be in the studio all hour preforming live and stuff. Cool -Pouder rpouder ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Femmes in Jamaica ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hey Pat, I was just listening to KROQ and Richard Blade (old British DJ dude) just said that this whole week, listen to the "Flashback Lunch" (where they play usually 80's stuff for about an hour) every day to win "Viva Wisconsin" before you can buy it. But then he said on Friday, he's giving away tickets to see the Femmes in Jamaica. Anyone know anything about this show, or more importantly, how can I rig the drawing? Nick mypen15 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ VF in Milwaukee? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hey fellow VF fans I'm a HUGE fan from Milwaukee, WI... any other VF fans from their home state? if so, or even if you are just a fan from anywhere, do any of you think that they will play in Wisconsin since they are releasing "Viva Wisconsin"? Of course I hope everyday that they will come here again, but do any of your know anything, or think they just might? I mean, hec, the cd was recorded in this state! Let me know about your opinions..thanks Amber Smashkin ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Shame on Pat. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ >>I didn't get all the lyrics, but it was something about heroes.>> IT's from the Mystery Men soundtrack: No More Heroes. for shame, john #3 DidacticCP -Pat. Says: Indeed. I am extremely embarrassed. Thanks to the many, many people who wrote to set me straight. I'm not going to print them all; that would necessitate an issue unto itself. And I hate having to admit I'm not perfect. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I May Be From Canada But.... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I may be from Canada. But I still want to know this answer. Everyone is talking about the new Freak Magnet and Viva Wisc... Cd. I want to get them but have no idea where I can order from. I can order locally from music stores but they charge $50 US a CD (that's like $75 Canadian Eh) and I have no idea if or when the CD will come. My question is where is the best source for Femmes CD and other cool stuff? Please help as Canada is neglected. Dave vasadj -Pat. Says: Read the first part of the next post. Relief may be coming soon. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ NME Review of Freak Magnet ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I've received the Cover from the candian version of Viva from someone in the record business in Canada. I've got no information yet about the release date but i'll e-mail you as soon is I get it. On the inlay there's not much info there's not even the track listing of the songs!!!! Only the band members and the listing of the horns of dilemma.... And it is on the beyond label... I thought that they would import the Cd from the U.S. but it seems that there is gonna be a home pressing of the album...the cover is printed in Canada. I found the review of Viva in the New Musical Express form November Six... 8 is usually the high standard for an amazing album, so 6 by their standard is pretty good. Rather than copying the review, I've searched for it on the NME site so here is the link: http://www.nme.com/reviews/reviews/19991104161345.html By the way, I've just discovered a new band from Montreal which is One Of His Kind, it's a combo which does cinematic kind of ambiance for the end of the millenium, each song is like this big crescendo, of heavy guitar, violin, cello and drum... Really worth the listen, if you like instrumental music which is a little bit progressive. It's on the kranky label. So bye for now.... Frank ffrenet ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Viva Winsconsin Is in My CD Player ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I just got my VW copy and I'm listening at it right now. The first impression is : WHAT A GREAT RECORDING!!!! Every single song, even those they played a thousand time (Confessions, Gimme the car, Hallowed ground...), have "something"; something new, something different, something exciting. And I think is a good idea to include songs from "Rock", that for the majority of the audience are new songs, and some old tunes like "Ugly" and "Special" that they don't play often live. A few notations: - The fact that "I'm nothing" is included in VW means that this song will not be in Freak Magnet again. I'm wrong? - From the notes: "ACG crew: PETER JEST (etc.)". It seems to be the same Peter Jest of the song included in the "Breakin' up" CD single... Ciao, Andrea hanzzzz ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RE: Sleepwalkin' ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I've seen the 2 track promo for Sleepwalkin' on ebay, billed as the first single from Freak Magnet. It's still available on there for only a couple of bucks. It's amazing what import singles and rare recordings you can find on ebay. There goes my income. But I must say - I've been on American Music since it bore the name of the last Femmes album. This is the first time I've been an ardent Femmes fan that they've actually put out official new material. And I like it. Joshua heyzeus ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RE: Sleepwalkin' ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ >Today I found on the English site http://www.eil.com the following VF promo >cd: > >SLEEPWALKING (2-track US promo including Clean Vers) I don't think I've heard "Sleepwalking" (or "Sleepwalkin'", according to the site Andrea mentions), either. The site's decription is: VIOLENT FEMMES Sleepwalkin' (US 2-trk promo CD inc Clean Vers, p/s) (147194) !!HOT!! Since it's a promo CD ... maybe someone who has it can MP3 it? Can someone who is close to the Femmes ask them about how they feel about MP3s? I thought I heard someone say a while back that the band doesn't mind bootleg recordings. Seems distributing music off a promo CD on MP3 might fall into that kind of "promotion by piracy" notion. (But then again, the only copies of Freak Magnet out there are promo CDs, so under that logic, we could all have FM as MP3 on our PCs ASAP. :) Of course, if I found the Sleepwalkin' CD here in the states, I'd buy it, but I don't know if I want to spend $11 and international shipping for two versions of one song. --James (fomerly James in Vegas, now James in Boston) jameswelborn -Pat. Says: Would you spend $8 plus US shipping? Southland Cd has it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This and That ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I would love to find out more about the 2-track US promo called "Sleepwalking". I've never heard of it. What songs are on it? Hooray!!! Today is the grand reopening (after 3 years closed) of the "Commodore Ballroom" in Vancouver where the Femmes have played many excellent concerts over the years. The song "Vancouver" on "Add It Up" was also recorded live here. The Commodore (open since the 1940's) is one of the best live band venues in North America. I hope to see the Femmes there again soon. I'd sure like to be in Australia on December 31. What a New Years Eve that would be! Glenn pwnordic ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A Perfect Night in London ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I just put on a non Femmes cd for the first time in over a week and it was Lou Reed's "A Perfect Night in London'. This is also a live acoustic cd, much like Viva Wisconsin. Lou Reed at his very best. I see so many similarities between Lou Reed's and Gordon Gano's songwriting styles. Both masters of their craft.
