It should cost $5. (If you're in WI you can hear victor at various times on the radio, or on the ABSOULUTELY AMAZING best buy exclusive $7 CD "Made In Wisconsin, Vol.1" (VIctor's got a diffrerent awesome song on this CD, called "Noise") That CD is so awesome it's got lots of great bands like LITTLE BLUE CRUNCHY THINGS, PET ENGINE, THE MOSELEYS, MAKI, and much more. BUY IT! okay that's enough sales pitches for now John, AKA NoidLess "Yeah, it's invisible, I wish I was Invisible" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From: (Rick Lupert) Subject: Gordon Sings on Heads track I heard the track on a local radio program last weekend...sounds alright...very distinctly Gano singing...though he's not the new lead singer...the Heads (new incarnation of the Talking Heads sans David Byrne) produced an album, or at least a demo, featuring several guest lead vocalists in it's tracks...not surprising to find Gordon involved as Jerry Harrison (of the Heads) was the producer of Blind Leading The Naked. I like the word naked. Rick ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From Subject: Femmes commit violence on Agawam Saw the Femmes for only the second time in my life and I decided I had to find some way to get earlier notice of their shows. Turns out they went a few hours from me twice this year and I missed them. I notice the Femmes don't seem to have a huge online impact. Hm. Are Femme fans retro? Anyway, They played the radio 104 Big Day Off in Agawam Mass, which is bascially held at an amusement park/racetrack. Due to the Albany show, the Femmes went on early, about 2:30. At first the sound was terrible, but improved dramatically as they went on. They opened with Country Death Song, and played quite a few songs, but when I try to compile a set list I just remember it as "Wow. that was cool." Because it was. I was up front, and tripping on the experience. The crowd was fairly receptive, but not really wild until about halfway through, at the hits section. It was like a collective "Hey, these are THOSE guys" light dawned, and mosh violence began. My personal pit highlight was watching a small blonde girl beat the heck out of a drunk frat guy. From that point on it was large scale mayhem. I think the VF converted a few new fans. I heard many people saying "I have to get an album of theirs" afterward. I do recall an esp rocking version of Dance MF Dance. Another highlight was when someone threw a purple 'B' cup bra on stage and the band sort of visually tracked it and then seemed to lose interest, only to play 36-24-36 next. A nice combo. Someone tossed Gordon a monkey (it was a tossy crowd) and he put it on the drums for a time, arranging the sticks just so. Toward the end Gordon said something along the lines of "When we came out you were some miserable looking people, but you're looking pretty happy now" and then "Here's another happy tune. It's about borrowing your Dad's car" How CAN I explain my personal pain? Liz (not always so darn verbose, but still pretty stoked.) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From: Wary Subject: Re: ROCK!!!!! for 9-29-96 I'm real happy today. Went to this little record store which sells used CD's, and found Violent Femmes Machine in the used bin. I've never seen a used VF CD in the bin before, and here's one I didn't have! It's got Machine(LP Version, and Dogpile Remix), Balkan Falkan, Chinese Rocks, and Color Me Once(Live version). Only cost 4 bucks too. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From: Jesse London Subject: Comparison of New Times/Rock!!! I feel that it is very hard to compare these two albums. I think it's definately a mistake to try to definitively say that one is better than the other. They have quite a different sound. I think both sounds are mature VF sounds. I wouldn't say that Rock really is a return to the early VF style. I think it is more a return and focus on specific elements of early VF. IMHO Rock is an album done predominately in a Ramones style. I think the VF's might say it pays reverence to them. You can here it very clearly, I think, in "She Went to Germany". Do you notice the Joey Ramone "uh oh" in between pieces of the chorus. The chord rhythms on several songs like "Tonight" are straight 3 chord punk rhythms. "Tonight" almost sounds like "Blitzkreig Bop", doesn't it? I don't think that the Ramones style tribute is the only element on Rock!!!. I still hear the mature VF sound from New Times on the album. And as always there is a "Brian Ritchie" song on the album..... Digiriblues (sp?) I mean to point out that the album structure is much the same as other albums....some return to old, some new (Gano), at least one Ritchie song. In the end though New Times is more NEW (surprise!) and Rock!!! is more OLD, but they are both in the mature style. That's the end of my sermon on these two albums....I'm curious to hear what others think. I got into hearing because my roommate loves them. Well now she's got me hooked on them. If you have any extremely interesting stories or facts about them, could you let me know. Thanks alot!!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From: Subject: Re: ROCK!!!!! for 9-29-96 I just wants to say that I saw the Femmes in Albany on the 27th. Everyone I talked to said that it was the best show they had ever been too. I have also heard a rumor that this could be their last tour. Tell me it ain't so. Would someone please tell me that its not. Preferable someone who knows the facts. It was amazing, not very big of a show but it was cool. Brian Ritchie is definitely now my favorite member of the band. For the encore they played Mirror Mirror on the Wall (or something like that) featuring Brian on mandolin which was cool. Then, they played Add It Up, it was definitely better live. I was going to hang around and meet the band but I had to leave (wah wah wah) the opening band was cool but i forget their name oh well. They played a much better version of waiting for the bus and well Dance MF Dance is just self explanitory if youve ever seen them that one string bass thingy is cool... i want one. "i dont care when i hate my life" dogsilihp oh yah, anyone else see them in Providence, RI? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From: Shannon L Johnson Subject: concerts To James or anyone who knows: I go to the University of Pittsburgh and I have never seen the femmes, so obviously I'm desperate for concert information. Well, I don't think that you guys will think it's that great. Back in July for some odd reason I wasn't that crazy about the Violent Femmes, I didn't like them as much as I liked some other bands. It was an bad thing, but now I'm back from my odd phase and I love the Violent Femmes more then ever. Thank God that I'm back. -Nina ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From: Subject: hey sister...have you heard? Let me add what I know here: The Talking Heads did a reunion album, minus their lead singer. So, on their new Cd (called something like No Talking, Just Head) they have a different singer on just about every song. Gordon Gano does a song called "Only The Lonely." Haven't heard it yet, but i'm going to Blockbuster Music tomorow to at least listen to it before considering buying. For those of you that bought the Crow soudtrack just for Color Me Once...well, hope you like the taling heads. It's an acquired taste. "It is so Frustating"-Tammy. The Violent Femmes Concert schedule tricked me, it said that they were playing in Fedonia, NY. So I got like all excited. But then I found out that Fedonia, NY is by Lake Erie, which like 6hours away from Summit, NJ!!!!! I would travell z that far to see the Femmes that is if I could drive, but I can't. Now everything is fucked up!!!!! I heard that are going to play at Irving Plaza, let's just hope they do. -Kara ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! <> ROCK!!!!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
