Compilation Sighting RE: Beyond Records RE: Freak Magnet RE: Freak Magnet Re: Cut Freak RE: Freak Magnet Changes Radio CD..RE: Change FM RE: Meaning of Blister RE: Meaning of Blister Color on Audio? Dream Concert ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Spoiler...Vancouver Show ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Greetings and salutations. The name is Ray...just joined the list a few weeks ago...wanted to know more about the Femmes before their show (of which I thank my wonderful sister for buying me a ticket while I was on vacation) here in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. To be completely honest, I only own 2 VF CD's (self-titled debut, Add It Up greatest hits), but have listened at some point or another to most of their other releases. I'm very excited about Freak Magnet and it was truly unfortunate to read about all of the trials and tribulations re: their old record co. in regards to this release. The show last week in Vancouver was great. The band played, for the most part, a greatest hits collection, and was, of course, augmented by The Horns of Dilemma. Concert was played out in an 55 year old theatre with poor ventilation and to a sold out crowd of approx. 1200. Noticed the line-up outside started out with a bunch of younghans but the further back you walked in the line, the older the crowd seemed to get...me, I guess I would be part of the older crowd (29 years). I did not recognize all of the songs and due to alcohol consumption, do not recall what order the songs came out, but I'll list the songs that I did recognize at the bottom of this email. To those who will be seeing VF this summer, you will be in for one hell of a good time. Back to lurk mode... Ray raoki PS: Saw a UK CD of VF titled "Kiss Off." Very plain packaging. Apparently contained a live performance in the UK from 1985. All 11 songs were from their first 2 albums. Is this a bootleg or would the boys be collecting money from this purchase? Let me know privately or publicly. Here's the song list from the Vancouver show... Country Death Song Hey Nonny Nonny Blister In The Sun Gone, Daddy, Gone Gimme The Car Black Girls Confessions Jesus Walking On The Water I Held Her In My Arms Prove My Love Old Mother Reagan American Music Out The Window Add It Up Color Me Once I Swear It (I Can Change) - made me wanna buy the soundtrack Don't Talk About My Music (old NRBQ song - sung/screamed by Brian) Kiss Off (one song encore) They played at least 4 or 5 more songs as well. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A Boy and his Fiddle... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Yes Gordon does play still play violin onstage - occasionally. Check out the picture right side - about halfway down the page. I was told this was taken in April 1998. http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Show/6806/Astory.html In addition - doesn't Brian also play xylophone on World We're Living In? I know he isn't credited on the liner but that is a xylophone I hear isn't it? Could be Sig on an electronic keyboard I guess. Like someone else recently posted - I too had the immense pleasure of witnessing a live performance of Machine once. Extreme VF! TFK thefemmeking ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Compilation Sighting ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Don't know how nationally distributed the CD is, but 107.7 The End (Seattle's alterna-rock station) has put out a CD of songs from "End Sessions" when bands come on and play short sets on the air. It's got our boys doing Fat. OH SO GOOD! It's also got a bunch of other cool stuff, but none of it is pertinent to the list. (Well, there is a Cake song on there, and I will be seeing both bands together in September, but we've already been through that. :) M stevens -Pat. Says: Yes, and I can't believe nobody called the venue to settle once and for all who is opening! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RE: Beyond Records ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It's official! This is the spot! BMG/Beyond Records! Come on guys drop the bug some email - let's give 'em some extra motivation to get those albums out NOW! -----Original Message----- < >yes yes yes! The bugs are REALLY excited to start on a Violent >Femmes site soon! >The Bug>> -------------------------- ddearry ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RE: Freak Magnet ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I've noticed a bit of talk about the possible October release of Freak Magnet so I thought I'd add this little quip that's been bugging me. During Gordon's solo set at the Calgary Folk festival, he played Rejoice and be Happy, but before playing he said (loose quote) - This is a song from a new album that we've had a hard time releasing. If we ever do get it released, it will be on it. - My only concern is what did he mean by IF ?? I'd think that if the album release is a sure thing, Gordon would have been a little more optomistic. That's just my observation (I'm sure things will work out fine) Ever the Optomist Paul pdoughty -Pat. Says: Well, it seemed a sure thing when Interscope had it oh so long ago. I wouldn't be surprised if the band is beginning to think of this album as cursed, and afraid that to say for sure that it will be released will jinx it further. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RE: Freak Magnet ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I say keep it as is. Short and sweet, huh? rob=) coons ps- anyone here going to the Blue Note show in Columbia in Sept? i'm thinking about it...? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Re: Cut Freak ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ They should definitely cut out the new I'm Nothing and I Wanna See You Again. Those should be put on a single off of FM, and nothing more. Definitely on the new FM should be a spirited version of Don't Talk About My Music. . . possibly one of the great VF "hard" songs. There should also be another new song which they have yet to play live. Reggies Right would fit in real nice after Reckless Stones. If I were the rep from Beyond, I'd make sure this cd was packed, and not a lame o' 45 minutes or whatever it is right now. john #3 DidacticCP -Pat. Says: It seems odd to me that I'm Nothing would be included, as that song was on their last American release. I can somewhat understand I Wanna See You Again, since ROCK is not as easily obtained, and many people have not heard it yet. I do however prefer the ROCK version. If a live CD is released, that would be an ideal place to put reworkings of these two songs. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RE: Freak Magnet Changes ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If I had the decision of making changes to FM, i for sure would. First of all I would like to see Reggie's Right put onto the cd, although I don't see that as a likely thing. I would also like to see the order of the songs changed so that the last song on the cd was something really up beat and knock your socks off, i think maybe if they put one last catchy upbeat song at the end it would be great. just my opinion and contribution to the can of worms. -beky Extatika ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Radio CD..RE: Change FM ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I recently acquired a copy of a radio broadcast in 94 and it includes all live versions of the following songs, as well as commentary: 4 seasons, blister in the sun, american music, don't start me on the liquor, breakin up, key of 2, kiss off, color me once, and add it up. The quality is excellent and on the original cd. You inquired about how to change Freak Magnet. My only dissapointment with this release is the poor recording quality. Most early albums were very crisp and tight and easy on the ears but this album seems of lower recording quality. I hope that improves. I also liked Posiitively 4th Street a lot. There are some excellent songs on this album. My personal favorite is Yes Oh Yes but I also enjoy I'm Bad, Freak Magnet, Rejoice and Be Happy, Positively 4 th Street, Mosh Pit (shows how strong their feelings are against the mosh pit. Also quite a change of style), and When You Died.........I would also like to include some of the other songs you hear in concert but are not recorded. Glenn pwnordic ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RE: Meaning of Blister ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ hey i would like to comment on the meaning of the song blister in the sun, i think that it is right on what you said, i have never really thought that much about the meaning of the song but when i did it was always beyond me, now it makes sense...good call on that one. Adam~ IMAGECUST ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RE: Meaning of Blister ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ << -Pat. Says: I believe the concensus is that it is about a guy who is so sexually deprived he must take matters into his own hands, so to speak. >> Pat, I don't think it's that he's sexually deprived--I mean, he says he has a girlfriend who seems upset by his habit. I think he's just obsessed with, er, pleasing himself. He says "I stain my sheets, I don't even know why," which suggests it's some sort of teenage male compulsion. But then no one does it better than yourself. ;-) Claire Lottelita -Pat. Says: Right. On both counts, I suppose. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Color on Audio? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ hey, i love the song "color me once" by the femmes, i was wondering if anybody has a good full length audio clip of this song, it doesn't matter what file type ie. MP3,Au,Wav anything will do. thanks adam IMAGECUST ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dream Concert ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This idea for a new topic sprung to mind recently (no pun intended with the "sprung" thing--you guys have been listening to BITS too much!). You see, I'm going to the Tori and Alanis Irvine Meadows concert in September (knock on wood a hundred times), and a thought came to me: what would be my ideal concert? Cause let's face it, Alanis is cool, but I can think of a dozen other bands/performers I'd rather shell out forty bucks to see with Tori, not the least of which is the Femmes (hey, it could happen). Actually, I don't care if it could happen, but I'd like to hear everyone's realistic or unrealistic fantasies for getting your money's worth out of TicketMasterBater. I'll think about mine some more and send it in in a few days.
