In response to the question 'Who is Dahmer?' in the last digest... Jeffrey Dahmer was (he's dead, you know =) a Milwaukee serial killer. Over 13 years he murdered (then dismembered) 17 men and boys (mostly black men). Milwaukee police officers arrested Dahmer on July 22, 1991, but had failed to arrest him in May after neighbors reported seeing a naked and bleeding boy. Officers, who were later suspended, accepted Dahmer's explination that the boy was an adult and Dahmer's homosexual lover, even though Dahmer was on probation for sexually molesting the boy's older brother in 1989. Dahmer pleaded guilty to 15 murder charges in January of 1992, and entered insanity pleas. He was found guilty by a jury in February, and was sentenced to 15 consecutive life terms in prison. A 16th term was added in May after he was found guilty of aggravated murder in Ohio. He only served a couple of years before he was killed, in prison, by another prisoner with a broomstick (hence the lyrics to 'Dahmer Is Dead'). Tonight........................... > Sorry, those two songs have one thing in common. They are Femmes songs, thats it. Other than that they are different. "Add it Up" is about the thoughts of sucide and should one throw it all away (hence, "Just about to cut it up, she said wait a minute honey gonna Add it up"), whereas "Tonight" is a dumb song they've been playing in concert for years. "Tonight is about angst, it has no real other theme of the song. Where as in "Add it Up" is acctually a dark song with meaning, Tonight is a dumb "fun" song that lat=ys all it's cards on the table to begin with. So you should be able to figure out their ages from that. (I haven't the faintest how old Guy is). This surprised me a bit as I thought the Femmes were all the same age & they obviously aren't. On the marriage thing: this had come up a few times before on the list. Gordon is supposedly married (he's got a wedding ring on in the Rock!!!!! CD photos) but I don't know anything about his wife. I'm pretty sure Victor's married; I don't know about Guy. Brian was but he got divorced & I don't know his love life from then on. I had a dream once that a kid at my high school was doing a slide presentation on the history of guys who wear high heels, & he had a picture of the Femmes (all in heels) in it. I have been getting it for about a month now so I thought it was about time I put my input in. I am a 19 year old Canadian and I was wondering if there were any other Canadians receiving the digest? Anyways, I didn't do this just to tell about myself, I did this to tell what I know. I was at the Lollapalooza in Toronto (actually it's Barrie, but that doesn't matter) and it was amazing. I don't know how many of you heard about EDEN musicfest but I was there also. Actually I was surprised to see how many Americans were actually there. We met these guys from California there, a 22 hour drive, but the guy told me he came with a friend who's father is 85% owner of Texas Instruments so they took a limo and his father filled it with booze ... but that's another story. Lollapalooza, the Femmes were indescribable. However, there wasn't a big crowd for them, I think it was partly due to the fact that they switched the order of the Ramones and the Femmes. They put them before the Ramones instead of after. I don't think this was a good choice because all the Ramones fans were ready to see the Ramones and when the Femmes came on the crowd was a little bit angry. The Femmes tried to be the Ramones to put the crowd at ease, but they just couldn't do it, the Femmes are the Femmes and that's all there is to it. They were so amazing. I finally heard that Jefferey Dahmer song there. Does anyone know where I can get that cd, I heard it is only available in Australia, and I'm dying to have it. Anywho, I am glad it was a small crowd because I could get very close to the stage. I wanted him to notice me so badly, but he didn't. I have a question for all of you out there, are the Violent Femmes gay, or bisexual even? I am asking this out of curiousity because at this show Brian Ritchie was playing that weird instrument that he plays and he was playing it like it was a dick, and then he was playing it up his ass, and I don't know, it just didn't look natural.
