But try the website. rob=) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RE: Hey Hey My My ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ << "Its better to burn out than to fade away" >> the first time i heard this quote was when Kurt Cobain died and this was written in his suicide letter. maybe im totally wrong on this one, but i think thats where i heard it. -em ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RE: Hey Hey My My ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > Anthology. BUT we also have him on CD clearly singing > "It's better to burn out than fade away" Yes, well, the and I also have him on CD singing quite clearly, "it's better to burn out cause rust never sleeps" I imagine it has to do with the different recordings of the songs (ie, one day he said it never sleeps, one day he said fading away sucks, yadda yadda yadda) whatever ;) -Wes +=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=+=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=+ | Wesley Torres | | | | http://www.students.bucknell.edu/wtorres/ | +=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=+=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=+ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RE: Hey Hey My My ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Just a few comments... For whoever asked, all the headliners at Summerfest have been announced: Phil Collins, the BoDeans, Smashing Pumpkins, LeAnn Rimes, Shania Twain, James Taylor, Kenny G, and a few others. And as for that Neil Young quote, I'm a huge fan of Neil & he does do that line BOTH ways. There are two different versions of the song: "My My Hey Hey (Out of the Blue)" which is the acoustic version with the line "It's better to burn out, cuz rust never sleeps" (or "It's better to burn out than it is to rust" in some verses & in live versions) and then there's the electric version, which is called "Hey Hey My My (Into the Black)" which has the line "It's better to burn out than to fade away." That's the line Cobain used in his suicide note & though Neil's always been a friend of Kurt & Courtney, he was very upset over the misinterpretation of his lyrics, and emphasized some other lyrics in the song when he next played it live: "Once you're gone you can't come back, when you're out of the blue & into the black!" time to 4:20 on over to the Page & Plant concert in Milwaukee! cheers, Tom -Pat. Says: Well, that explains it. Wes obviously has an acoustic version, and for some strange reason, the only version my husband has is from Weld, which as you may know is a live electric one. OK, enough of Neil. Until he's a member of the VF we really can't talk about him here anymore. It was fun, but now it's done. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Gordon..Solo ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ MTV online reports GG is working on a solo album... "Violent Femmes leader Gordon Gano is working on a solo album and according to the L.A. Times, he's getting lots of high profile help. The paper reports that the record will include Lou Reed and former VU bandmate John Cale, along with PJ Harvey, Frank Black and MaryLou Lord. Also onboard is Cynthia Gayneau, who is Gano's sister. Gayneau is the original spelling of their surname. Brother Glenn is also a singer- songwriter based in Alaska..." The article goes on to include info about FM & quotes our favorite smart ass comment from the webpage - ya know the one about a fan with an extra million dollars... to see the rest of the article go here... http://www.mtv.com/mtv/news_launch.html okay - so the last time we saw solo efforts... well... I'm not even going there... Here's hoping BR does a solo and then our heroes can shop for a label with a 3'fer to offer.... -ddearry -Pat. Says: I believe MTV has things a bit wrong. Read on..... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Gordon..Solo ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ New Rock 102.1 ran something about Gordon in their Rock News segment yesterday- but I was only half listening and I can't find anything about it on their website. It said that Gordon was putting the finishing touches on what they called a "solo project," the soundtrack for the indie-movie "Hitting The Ground." But they didn't say if he was actually recording any of the music--they said it will feature Lou Reed, PJ Harvey, and a couple other people who i can't remember. Then they also said that "Freak Magnet"'s status is still unknown as the band continues to search for a label. Does anybody know anything else about this movie soundtrack? rob=) -Pat. Says: I think something is mentioned about it in the letters section of the Official Homepage. Also, we talked about this a few months ago. Time doesn't permit me right now to dig up the back issues, but it seems he's been working on this soundtrack for a long LONG time. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ROCK and Freak Magnet ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I haven't been around lately so I don't know whether I can buy "Rock" or "Freak Magnet" in the stores yet. Does anybody know how I can get them? Thanks! Wolf739 -Pat. Says: The release of Freak Magnet has been delayed. You may be able to find a promo copy. I might as well say here that someone on Ebay periodically auctions off promo copies of FM, and misrepresents it as something that will not be released. Do not get taken in by this. Do not spend 20, 25 bucks to get your hands on it. The album will be released, of that I am sure, by hook or by crook. As far as ROCK is concerned, it is an import, and maybe you could order it from a record store. But before you do that, check out the merchandise section of the Official Homepage. You can buy it there for less than I have seen elsewhere. I myself ordered it via a small record store (twice; one for me, and one for Wes), and got it for like 15 bucks or so, but I have heard of places charging over 20 bucks for it. You don't have to pay that much. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Polka It ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ patwary,.Internet writes: >-Pat. Says: I think we can assume that Kyle does not like Ska. operation ivy is rad beyond that it gets thin......i'd rather hear all the songs to the tune of polka...... kyle -Pat. Says: Now THERE'S an interesting idea. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Wurst ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ hmm... so i was sitting in my final final exam of my freshman year of highschool, and i just so happened to be in german class. i was trying so hard to concentrate but as rob will tell any of you, that is just not something i do well. (i tried to take my accelerated geomtery exam and everytime i tried to think all i could hear was "wanna put my tender heart in a blender watch it spin around into a beautiful oblivion, rendevous then im through again" it really sucks when you can only think that and need to be thinking in terms of pi) so anyways, i babble WAY too much, i was sitting there in german and all of the sudden i start hearing...."She eating wurst. She's drinking beer. She loves a crowd, that's what I hear. She went to Germany. Went there without me. She went to Germany." i was hearing it my head of course, so when i started to laugh a little bit every kind of just looked at me and i was like "shut up it's funny in my head" and this kid who sits diagonal from me goes "hey usch!" (uschi's my german name, but i go by usch, hootch, ootch, mouschi (not a good name if you know german) and a couple other things too) i turned around, our teacher's a fucking retard and didn't notice, and said "yea brett?" and he said, "what're you laughing at?" so i told him i had this song going through my head, and i told him the lyrics and he knew who it was by! i was really excited. then he offered to take me, feed me bratwurst and get me totally drunk and then sleep with me. i declined the offer, but i thought it was kind of funny, and that it was cool that he knew who the song was by. i'm gonna go now. bye! -Beky ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Oz Top 100 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Bit of useless knowledge: Here in Australia last weekend a radio station (triple j) did a count down of the hottest 100 songs of all time as voted by its listeners. More than 100,000 votes later, the violent femmes came in at number 15 with its only entry, u guessed it BITS. Just for the record the top 5 were: 5. Creep Radiohead 4. Last Goodbye Jeff Buckley 3. Alive Pearl Jam 2. Throw your arms around me Hunters and Collectors 1. Smells like teen spirit Nirvana The band with the most entries was The cure with 5 songs. If anyone wants a copy of the full list then they can e-mail me personally.
