The reason is that I subscribe to a few of these lists, and although each has a moderator, that job is in name only. Each post automatically goes to every subscriber, without any editing whatsoever. The moderator often must then exercise DAMAGE control, whereas I prefer QUALITY control. I would like to think that I can proudly point to this list and say "this is what I do, and I do it well". I LIKE to inspect every post, arranging them in a pleasing manner. I LIKE to get all information about shows and such, and I LIKE to either verify or debunk rumors. It is very important to me that this letter is informative and entertaining, and yet is not harmful or hateful to either you or the Violent Femmes in any way. Believe me, I spend many hours ensuring that this is so. Unfortunately, lately I have become aware that several recent posts have been misread and misconstrued. One instance in particular was misread in such a way as to be potentially damaging to another subscriber, one about whom I care very much, and I fear my motives, judgement, and integrity have been questioned. This is very distressing to me, and it hurts to think that another's estimation of me has been lowered. If that person is reading this right now, please reread the issue, and you will see that it does not actually say what you thought. However I will concede that if ONE person misread it, others may have as well, and for that I am truly sorry. I understand your concerns, and will try to read each post in the future with a far more critical eye. As for now, I think I'm going to follow the advice of the famous Monty Python and the Holy Grail and just "RUN AWAY!!!" No no. It won't be long. Just give me a few days. I need a vacation. I'll start right up again next Monday at the latest. So keep on sending me letters. BTW, I'm trying out a new mail program. The font is different from my file fonts, so I would appreciate if some of you would write to tell me what this letter looks like on your screen. First of all, I heard the new single on the radio the other day (and to my dismay, every time I call the radio station to see if they would play it again they never do). Anyways, It's a kick ass, medium paced song. And actually when I went up to Salt Lake City and saw the femmes last summer they played it. According to all the set lists, me and maybe a few other people who attended that concert are the only people on the list to have heard it live. I personally liked it a lot better than Bad when the two were played live right next to each other. Well that's it, nothing too interesting. Since November, I've had March 17th, the first date slated for Freak Magnet's release, circled on my calendar. Imagine my disappointment upon finding that it had been bumped back to May 19th. Heart wrenching though it was, I could still live with it. However, I'm speechless upon finding out this latest unfortunate news. How am I supposed to go on being a productive human being without a date set for release? Particularly when rumors point to a release later than September. Those bastards! (uh, the guys at Interscope, not the VF). Dont they remember that single most important truism in life, "YOU CANT FUCK WITH THE VIOLENT FEMMES. YOU CANNOT FUCK WITH THIS BAND!!!" However, with every door that closes, God opens another one. Or in this case two. My delight is beyond compare with the news of TWO back to back Oklahoma shows the weekend after my finals!!!! WAHOOOOOOO!!!! My first ever vf show, followed by my second! I've been waiting five years to see this band, so I just have to hold out another month. Of course, both OK dates are 'tentative,' and if they get cancelled, well, I just can't say. I won't be held accountable for my actions if that happens. Everyone cross your fingers that the OK shows go through, otherwise, there may be some Unabomber copycat crimes, the first in the form of a mysterious package addressed to Interscope records.
