I would like to get in >touch with anyone else going. cheers I'm going, and dragging along a couple of friends. Well, when I say "dragging", one of them came with me to see them play last time they were here, and naturally jumped at the chance to see them again. The other one has never seen them play before, but I'm sure he'll enjoy it. I'm looking forward to it immensely. Like most people this side of the pond, I've never heard any of the Freak Magnet stuff, so that'll be a treat. I just hope they bring some T-shirts this time - they didn't have any last time, and my three from previous gigs are looking a bit tattered now ;) Xav xav ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jackson ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ When I heard the Violent Femmes were playing in jackson, I was extremely excited and couldn't. However in the weeks to come, I began to become nervous.I learned that the femmes show was a private party for milsaps students only (A $12,000 a semester college.) I knew I had to get in. After many failed attempts to get tickets thru a friend who has a friend who attends milsaps. When Friday Morning came up, and I hadn't got my tickets, I knew what I had to do. I awoke about 8:30 got dressed, ate and drove to Jackson (about an hour and 15 minutes away from hattiesburg.) I went to Be-bop records (I worked for the sister store back home for 4 & 1/2 years.) and I got directions to Milsaps. I arrove on campus and went to the administration office and got an admissions packet. I then asked if I could walk around campus for a little while, they said that it was not a problem. I wandered around for about an half an hour and i stopped this girl and asked her how i could get tickets for the show tonight. She told me that she already gave her tickets away, she stopped her friend who told she wasn't planning to go and she would give me her tickets for free! It was amazing! THe show was amazing! The femmes played for about an hour and a half, opening up with "Jackson Town" a song about Jackson Mississippi and they also played a Version of "Faith" where Gordon broke into the bridge and played the mississippi state song, then He sang the lyrics I couldn't tell if the femmes hated being in mississippi or what. I don't care however I had a blast. I have the tape if anybody wants a copy email me for a trade. I could also post the entire set list. Love Your Femmes Buddy in MS. mike-maynard mdixon ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RE: Faith Dance ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ << I did a little faith dance that I made up. this is very funny!!! Kyle_Souza -Pat. Says: This dance should be videotaped and put on the web so we can all see it. Then we can all do something during a show that doesn't involve pink flamingoes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RE: What Album Should I Get.. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ << i was wondering what album i should get next >> either the self entitled [some may consider it a cliche, but we all know it's a classic :)], or hallowed ground which is also a wonderful album. ~shannon Fraggle3 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RE: What Album Should I Get.. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My advice to you, mein freund, would be to either get the original self-titled album or 'Hallowed Ground'. Both of them are classics, both of them with classic songs all over them. Every song on the original album is an essential Femmes song, thought provocing, innovative, and easy to listen to over and over. 'Hallowed Ground' is the follow-up to the original, and contains more songs that sound like they could have come from the first album, like 'Country Death Song', 'I Hear the Rain' and 'Never Tell'. The album also starts to show some religious and jazz influence with songs like 'Jesus Walkin on the Water' an 'It's Gonna Rain'. Both albums are awesome, and essential to any Femmes fan's collection. My suggestion: you need to own both of them :) gkaiser ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RE: What Album Should I Get.. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ First album would definitely cover the basics, a solid second investment, but make sure to then take a good long look at "Hallowed Ground" this album is mystical.....an excellent slice of musical diversity. I feel as if the song "Never Tell" sums up the Femmes, and their prowess, every time that I hear that song, it takes me through the full range of music induced emotions. "I'll show you what it's like to sink!" Kevin T. Grady ktgrady ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RE: What Album Should I Get.. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ << What album should I buy>> Mike, I think you should buy "Why Do Birds Sing". It's a really great c.d. I really like "Look Like That", "Hey Nonny Nonny", "Used To Be", "He Likes Me". I'm gonna stop here with the song list, because there's not a song on that album that I dislike. So, that's the one (if you can only buy "one" ) that I'd pick. "Add It Up" was the first c.d that I bought and then "Why Do Birds Sing" was the second. However, I have had Violent Femmes/Violent Femmes on vinyl from the get go.....so...I was not in the same position as you. The best advice I can give is..... "Splurge baby, and buy them all". At least that's what I finally did. Hope that help. Peace, Tammy from Tampa LTJENX13 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RE: What Album Should I Get.. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ <> YOU MUST GET "Why Do Birds Sing?"....that album is the shit! I can listen to it from beginning to end a million times and never get tired of it...actually every damn album this band has done is awesome... Samantha Pntr1 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A Dream ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Last night I had a dream about the femmes. It was pretty weird. They were giving a concert at my high school, in the auditorium. The school band (which I am in, i play trombone) was in the pit, I guess taking the place of The Horns of Dilemma. There was only about 20 people at the concert too. So anyway, I don't really remember a lot of the songs they played (it was a dream after all), but they kept taking breaks, and during one of these breaks they were talking to people in the pit. I wanted to ask them if I could play with them on stage (I also play guitar) but I didn't have the nerve. While they were still on break I did ask them, however, if they would be signing autographs after the concert, and all three of them said "oh yeah.. of coarse" and then Gordon said "ok guys, lets play add it up and get out of here" So they did and they left, but I went out back to try and find them for an autograph I saw Guy and Brian talking to each other in the parking lot so I went to talk to them, by the time I got there Brian was gone, but i asked Guy for an autograph and he said "no... we're trying to stop giving out autographs" , but for some reason that didn't bother me and I just left to find Gordon or Brian.... then i woke up...... weird huh I don't know what to think of it and to answer the question of what my fantasy/dream would be... it would be to play with them in a concert Sorry it's so long Joel TeamEnos ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Cover This ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I was going through my CD's the other night and remembered (reading, hearing, psychically receiving which I can't remember). Something about Brian saying the band wanted to do a whole album of cover tunes. I started thinking about it and I came up with a few I though would be really cool (or extremely comical) for them to cover: Mean Woman Blues which is on "A Black and White Night Live" Roy Orbison with a collection of other great musicians. The Jumpin' Jive by Cab Calloway (Not to be confused with Jump, Jive, and Wail). Crimson and Clover by Tommy James and the Shondells. Not Fade Away by Buddy Holly And just to be completely ridiculous Lovegun by Kiss. Kathryn Kittricken -Pat. Says: I agree with Not Fade Away. I think they could show the Deadheads how it's really supposed to be done :) It seems many VF love songs are done with tongue planted firmly in cheek, so I'd have to cast a vote for Love Potion #9, can't remember who did it first. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
