Kyle, do a TADA on your kazoo. Beky, clash some cymbals or bang a gong. Yes, folks, BACK by POPULAR DEMAND, the guy we've all loved and missed, the man of the hour... Ladies and gentlemen, let's have a round of applause and a BIG WELCOME BACK for.... WES TORRES!!!!!! yaaaayyyyyyyy (psst: ok now we can't talk about him behind his back anymore. So Kyle, I'm not going to print the letter you posted me) Right Wes, you know the rules: don't ask me if the VF will be playing in your town, look in the official and unofficial pages (see new addy), refrain from deeply personal questions about band members' lives, NO FLAMING. Now get out there and BE FUNNY. And if you unsub again, I'll kick your ass. I know where you live. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Bellarmine Info ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I talked to Joyce at student affairs for Bellarmine again today. The contracts have still not been signed so as far as the school is concerned it is NOT official. She's hoping they can wrap it up this weekend so I'm going to try her back on Monday. I've got her 800 number now so I don't mind calling! I'll keep you posted! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Alliance Info ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Joy--Here's the info. Pat--thought you might want to post this both of you--sorry you aren't getting separate personalized letters, I really need to get some sleep! I called Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio about tix for the April 4th show there. You can charge tix by phone starting March 23rd (the date they go on sale for non-students). Their # is 1-800-992-6682, and then you ask to be connected with the information desk (which doesn't open until 10 am). Hope this helps; hope they aren't sold out! love to all **amber -Pat. Says: I heard from the president of the SAC, and here's what she had to say: <> ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ DC Tonight ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Yes, I will be at DC tonight. Look for a rose skirt with black lace over, and say hi to the person wearing it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Vive la Voilet ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Went to Fredericksburg! No wait I can't stop there! Went to Fred. with AM listers Amber B, Jessica O & Lincoln, Jesse L & Addy, and, my friends, words cannot describe... I thought we were in big trouble when we all looked at our tickets and they read VOILET (like toilet) Femmes. But Jesse keenly gave it a French twist and it became our mantra for the evening - pronounce it Vwa-Lay! So the six of us (along with at *most* another 6-700) proceeded to be "seduced, indulged, and redeemed" (I love it but I didn't make that up) by the enigma known as VF. I just had a feeling it was going to be something special! So many wierd things happened - Amber and I had been threatening to go to a show together for months and Jesse and I had missed each other in Knoxville TN last year. Pat hooked me up with Jess who had an extra ticket and only *after* Amber fedexed a check to the Blue Dog did she realize I had gotten the mileage mixed up with the Lexington date and we realized it was going to be about a 1000 miles round trip. And on top of that - when I left Knoxville it was snowing and by the time I got to Bristol Va to pick up Amber it was sticking! BUT ooooooooohhhh was it worth it! Eugene Chadborne treated us to, not just the electric rake this time, but also, the electric toaster, guitar, and banjo played with assorted dental instruments and whatnot! He opened with Bach and closed with Nazi Punks - even managed to slip a little Sadam number in called Oil and Hate - there's always someone reminding you you're 2 quarts low! The man is an unfuckingbelievable genius! VF took the stage for just a little over 2 hours - played 27 songs - and just generally RaWkeD us from beginning to end! Those of you who don't like set lists - fuck off - I do! Didg,Flamngo,Nonny,Prv My Luv,Nothin,C U Agin,Bits,Am Mus,36 24,Brkn Hrts,Dahmer,Out th Wind,Wait 4 th Bus,Good Feel,Danc MF Danc, Bad,Held Her,Grl Trbl,Mthr Reag,Gimme the Cr, Rejoice - at which point Mr. Gano (who has let his hair grow long again - I love winter!)said "That one was from Matthew - this one isn't." I didn't catch the first few lines but the chorus was I'm a I'm a I'm a ... FREAK MAGNET! Yes I do believe they treated us to the title track! At this point things start to blend together as more people began to appear on stage - Dr. Chadbourne, Dominic, a guest on tenor sax and (sniff) Dale's repl. on trombone. I don't remember who was on for what but the rest of the set was Confessions,Black Grls (ended fantabulously by Mr. Hoffman), Gon Dady Gon - Ring of Fire *almost* (they started but only played a few lines) then , of course, ADD IT UP during which BR played the conch, bass, mini sax (oops wait I may be confusing some of this with Black Grls) mmm now I can't remember which song but BR also played a wooden flute (which I assumed was the Japanese flute he's performed in NY). By the end of Add Chadbourne and BR were sharing a mike AND the electric rake - Dilemma was belting out the four piece blast - Gano's fingers were flying, Guy was on his tip toes pounding on the skins and as I said before ... words cannot describe... Since one of our group, Jess, had waited 6 years (Guy pointed that out to us =) to attend her 1st concert because she wanted it to be her favorite band - we all waited outside by the bus. I think now, more because we didn't want it to be over than we were expecting anything to happen! Guy came out and talked to us for a long time, and we watched Willie do some fancy bus (er, coach - sorry Willie) drivin'. Amber (lucky dog!!) was the recipient of a very special gift from Guy - an all access pass - and proceeded to make herself very useful directing ,uh, VF traffic! BTW - we decided on the way home that the next person who disses Guy on the list we're comin' to kick your butt! Just kidding (mostly)! Guy also told us that Bad is not a Gano. He said that it was originally written for Johnny Cash but he never used it. Hmm interesting! And , please let's let the Puff Daddy string lie in peace now, but everyone will be pleased that we did at least plead the case with Guy. I think we're safe! So as the bus pulled away, Each went a separate way The six of us - strangers before VF friends forevermore! Viva la Voilet! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Eugene Chadbourne Reviews Needed ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Please give me a review of the Eugene Chadbourne show. I am putting out his next record. And would like to hear what you all think of him. Brian plays on this record as well. I will put an Mp3 file from the new CD on my site if you want to check it out. Looking forward to your thoughts. With ROCK not having been officially released in the U.S., will Freak Magnet have overlapping songs with ROCK or will it be all new cuts? -Pat. Says: GREAT question. Anyone know? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RE: Freak Magnet ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ that's it!!! as soon as I get a band, it's gonna be called Freak Magnet!!! Thank you Femmes!!! Nick ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Covers..The LAST WORD on Puffy ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Everybody has probably known this for awhile, but I haven't seen it mentioned. I guess UB40 did a cover of "Do you really want to hurt me?" cause I hear it about 20 times a day while I am working at Applebee's. I really didn't notice at first because I tend to tune out the music we play all day, but one day it just hit me. Anyway, I just want to say...... WU-TANG SPEAKS FOR THE CHILDREN!!! WU-TANG SPEAKS FOR THE CHILDREN! YEAHH!!! Oh yeah, you guys are forgetting something when it comes to good ol' P****. Sure he makes his living off of remaking everybody's music, but you are forgetting that everyone whose music he skanks is allowing him to do it. If they don't mind him remaking their shit, then why the hell should we? It's not like the music belongs to us. If one does not appreciate p**** do what I do...turn off the TV, and don't buy his albums!! So simple. It amuses me how someone here called somebody else closed-minded for liking p****. To me, that seems pretty damn closed-minded in itself. If one is so quick to judge someone as a person because of their musical tastes, then that's pretty shallow too!! (due to the fact that I am always so far behind on these news letters, this will probably get censored out anyway, so fuck it) Now that I got that off my chest I feel much better. Nothin' but love. Aaron ~there's a mean bone in my body...~ - -Pat. Says: OK I cut Aaron some slack because he's catching up, and because I'm in a good mood. But no more. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RE: Beky ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ good to hear from beky again. her paranoia is kinda cute, huh? about the juliana hatfield song: my sister and i love it! so cool--for any of you out there with sisters, you know how it goes! byeeeeeeeeeeee! *em-illll-e ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Reel Big Fish ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It sucked i was at the Reel Big Fish show on Wendesday night. Reel Big fish opened up playing a mock song of the Violent Femmes they were making fun of the Femmes.
