I agree that he must be stopped. Not just because he has the chance of working with the Violent Femmes and ruining thier reputation, but because he might work with any other reputable band and ruining the stereotype of music they represent. He's ruined the classic music label by working with Jimmy Page and the grunge label by working with Dave Grohl. Next thing ya know, Puff Daddy is going to be doing covers of Bach and Puccini or the Femmes and Sex Pistols. WE MUST STOP THE MADDNESS!!! This is not the right way to go! DON'T LET RAP TAKE OVER! If you do like the femmes, then respect their choice to do something new and something they want to do. If you don't like the idea, dont buy it, and if it happens to be on the radio, then turn it off. You do have the choice. I just read the bit on Puff Daddy remaking those songs. First, the remaker has to have permission from the band to remake a song, right? That would mean that Dave Grohl (who I love to death) gave Fluff Daddy permission (and even helped him along evilly enough). Hopefully the Femmes love us (their fans) and respect us enough not to let some really really lame umm "rapper"(can you call him that?)--who APPARENTLY can NOT write his own songs--remake some of their already splendid material. It was bad enough when someone (was it Fluff Doody?) remade the Police song. I'm not sure if they feel any decent form of music (anything other than rap and country) must be turned into crappy rap or what but I wish it'd stop. Sigh. If the Femmes were to let him remake their stuff, I'm afraid they'd lose a lot of respect from me as artists. And to pacify all you rap or country music fans: I'm not aiming this towards a diss on you. I've actually heard rap that I thought was really decent (I like Bone Thugs n Harmony)..so, don't get your panties in a bunch emailing me about how great rap is cuz I won't listen and it'll just make me mad and do mean things. I love the Foo Fighters but hated the original version of "the bejamins" and now that dave grohl is in it, the song is actually somewhat cool. Its a good form of experimenting with other forms of music for bands we love... Especially when it comes to Florida dates. How long in the 'What's Happening' section do we have to read that the VF will be playing in the Superbowl festivities? I think they should have volunteers help out. In an unrelated topic, the new album is rumored to be released 3.17.98. The group eluded to in the past of record copmpany squabbles that delay producing and releasing. Why doesn't the group just make their own label, so they can avoid this. I believe the group Soul Asylum figured this out. Since the VF (or the reacord labels) do very limited promoting, I'm sure they could afford to make, produce, and distribute their own music. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Victor News ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I talked to Victor de Lorenzo the other day online and his third album is being mastered right now in the studio. He said that the album will, hopefully, be out sometime around June (Isn't that when the new Femmes album comes out?!?) and has the tenative title of "ARM". He also mentioned that he may have a band name of "Atomic Robot Man" (hence the title ARM). He hasn't quite decided yet.
