I could see if it was a bunch of no name bands....but this is the cream of the crop and it's sitting somewhere collecting dust!?!? I'm appalled.....Gordon deserves more than that.... and the movie, from what I've read about it, sounds really cool. Maybe in a perfect world....next spring....the release of Freak Magnet ( if some a**hole record company signs the guys and recognizes that they rule and everyone else sucks!), the release of the soundtrack for Hitting the Ground....AND a solo album by good ole' Gordon Gano himself! But...like i said...only in a perfect world would that happen....Obviously this isn't a perfect world if the genius that is THE FEMMES is totally overlooked for assinine, boring bands who rip off the Femmes and all the people who made rock and roll and punk great...that crap makes me sick.....music is so freakin' corporate now it thoroughly disgusts me.....The Femmes are the true underdogs of what true "alternative" music is......Creed isn't alternative....Everclear isn't alternative (aren't they annoying? Every damn song they sing... somewhere in it you always hear...."....YEAH!..........YEAH!!" If you don't belive me listen to them!!).........Those bands suck! I allways thought it as the Femmes unofficial 2 & 1/2 album. It's obviously religious titles at first scared me off (Soul On Right, I Don't Need Nobody Else ( But Jesus ), Let The Church Role On, and so on ) but I quickly overcame this fear and have learned to enjoy the album quite a lot. I would recommend it to anyone who likes the Femmes earlier works. It's almost impossible to find it here in Canada too! As far as I know it was only released on LP although a taped version must also exist. The recent one being "Don't Talk About My Music" ( or something along those lines ) following the not as recent "Diversity Of Man" but also included are "Spiritual"," In Style Fashionable Unfashionable"," I Wanna Know What Life's About"," Wait For Love" and "I Came For Your Women". Are these names that the band has given to these songs? More likely not as most are entitled simply using the line repeated more often or simply the focus of the tune but I was just curious if anyone out there has heard the Femmes on or off the stage talking about these songs. Has anyone heard of these songs under different names? Any songs I've missed? As far as I know these are all original Femmes songs ( correct me if I'm wrong ), but while I'm slightly off topic, what about cover tunes the band has played. I know they've done "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me" on Why Do Birds Sing? They've played in concert The Batman Theme Song ( old version ) and Holly Jolly Christmas but what other covers have they done? It would be interesting to see them put some of these on an album (B-sides and Rarities compilation perhaps ). I know that Girl Trouble was a song they use to play way back in the early 80's and only got around to putting it on album by the time Why Do Birds Sing? came out. Anybody know why? Anyone know any other songs that were around several years or so before being found on an album? Freak Magnet songs don't count !
