Be forewarned - this is one of those letters Pat mentioned a while back...One of those where someone is a bit innebriated and decides to fire off a little note to the rest of the group. I apologoize ahead of time!! This town is so full of good music I just can't help myself! First I wanted to bitch bitch bitch that I got here one day too late to see a surprise appearance by Dylan at a Leftover Salmon show last Friday (12.50 and only 400 people DAMN THE LUCK!!!) But more importantly I wanted to tell everyone I came across THE opening band for the Femmes last night. Actually I first heard this band way, way back in the early 80's before I'd ever heard of VF and I was as shocked as I could be when I got to Memphis late last week and came across a reunion show listing for (drum roll please) Tav Falco & Panther Burns!!!! Rockabilly, punkabilly - they still have that stuff!!!!! The place was a veritable who's who in Memphis music - and the show was flat out ROCKIN'!!! Ahhh the nostalgia ... Whatever happened to that guy who was putting together the inertia tour thing?!?! And hey did anyone else see that piece with Johnny Rotten on Vh-1? Punk is not dead! Amen! Deana ddearry -Pat. He said something to the effect of, " You know what's great about Salem Mass? If you don't like how someone acts, or talks, or dressed, or if you simply want something they have, you just tie them up and burn them! If you think someone has prettier eyes than you, you just tie them up and burn them! But the one thing all these people have in common, the one thing that ties them together is that everyone of thems last words were, 'You best dance mother fucker!' I'm curious to know what readers think of it - is it similar to the Femmes or is it something completely different. My guess is that it must be similar to the Femmes because I think Gordon writes the music and sings too. I've got all the Femmes CDs (except Freak Magnet- we don't get promotion CDs unfortunately) so I'm keen to explore new territory. By the way, the last time the Femmes did a European tour as far as I know was in 92. It's time to put that right. scrawbzy -Pat. Says: They played London in Oct. 1997, and somewhere in Portugal, too.
