I finally got to see the Violent Femmes live! One thing I've realized though... the VF have a lot of tall fans, and they all like to stand in front of me. :) I only got to see a rare glimse of Gordon, got to see Guy even less times, but i was able to see Brian almost the whole time. Oh well, it was still a great show. The only thing that really bothered me about the crowd was the crowd surfing... i got someone dropped directly on my head which made my already bad headache worse. Hmm... I'm not going to go into the whole concert because I can't really think of anything important that happened that hasn't already been told by people in other posts and that won't be told better by other people that went to the concert too. Overall though the show was great and I urge anyone who has not seen the Violent Femmes live to try their hardest to go to a show. I also skip over it when I'm listening to Add it Up because it sounds so redundent, but it is one hell of a song when they play it live. Brian always finds some creative way to introduce it. Although the music to the song is ok in concert, it has to be the least lyrically challenging song the Femmes have. Brian had played the song in concert with a one-string bass guitar, which was pretty cool. And about the new album. Its really hard to explain but at the show I saw, they played it about half-way through their set. Everyone was already pumped up and when they started playing it things went wild. I think it is one of those things that you have to really experience in order to get. Also, does anyone know when (or if) the show at the Marzz in Raleigh is going to be confirmed & is anyone else thinking about going? I agree with Pat. whole-heartedly! Dance MF dance is an average tune at best on the recorded stuff. But LIVE is a whole different experience.! I cannot tell you the energy that flows when Brian goes through a long spiel on whatever is on his mind at the time and in the end a person always says..."WHen I say Dance, YOu Best Dance...." It is a song of pure energy that shows the Femmes music has roots in all styles music including PUNK! I tried to find some goodness in the song just because it was the Femmes, but it seems so impossible. I know they love to play it live too, and that's what I hate! It is so terrible!
