I have added a few (very few) pictures to the AM section of my homepage,
and will try to add more this week.
Click on my AM archives link above to get to the page, then click on
pictures on the left.
If you are so inclined, check out my main homepage as well. I have a
new mp3 of the week (not vf related).

The Chicago Show
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
took in the Chicago show on Sunday; beautiful day in the west loop,
alex chilton (of big star?) opened for the femmes with some pretty
innocuous rock and roll (he looked a high school math teacher). gordon
was out and about enjoying the festival before the set; i was going to
hazard some sort of hello and i could have sworn it was him but to be
honest the last time i saw him he had long hair and looked twenty
pounds heavier so i didn’t say anything. it was fun to see them again.
they seemed to feed off the crowd and i wonder if the vibe of the
crowd influences their set because the middle of the set featured some
very low key numbers (hallowed ground, confessions, etc.) which i
would think might alienate some of the un-femme-initiated in the crowd
(read: they would be happy if the femmes played blister in the sun five
times). they really were fun to watch. some of their jams were a little
repetitive as they all seemed to feature sigmund snopek doing something
weird with various instruments, but they really seemed to be enjoying
themselves. i always liked the femmes because i never felt they sold me
short with their music. i was trying to keep some sort of a set list in
my head, but they played three songs that must have come off their
newest album with which i’m not familiar, one had the refrain of
“freak magnet” and the other “rejoice and be happy.” they also played
“life is an adventure” with gordon flubbing the penultimate verse (he
apologized before the song that he was a little rusty on the lyrics).
the encore was “i held her in my arms” (my second favorite femmes song
next to “fat”) and “american music”. though the music of the femmes
will forever be the soundtrack to my high school years, i was worried
that going to see them would only provide nostalgic value. i was so
happy to be proven wrong. they once again affixed in my mind their
standing as one hell of a rock and roll band.
RE: A Story
this is a reply to the June 20th issue the “A Story”
When will people ever learn not to leave their CD wallets in their
Cars?? let alone Stereo Faces?? im not suprised your CDS got stolen
yet i wouldnt take this as a Disapointment yet instead a lesson, in
the Crack town i live in if you leave your CD wallet in your car at
night weather you have the nicest alarm or some really nice car they
will smash your window and grab it, and ilive in a pretty small city.
next time think before you lock your car & go into the house for the
night becasue the Freak Magnet promo advance is not a CD you want to
lose like that!
Dear Exodus,
Don’t be so hard on Stephen; we don’t all live in Crack towns.
Anyone wanting to steal my car wouldn’t have to break the window;
It’s unlocked, and the keys are in it. The house is unlocked, too.
Dear Stephen,
Do you need another copy of the Freak Magnet promo? I’m sure I or
another of us could get you a copy of a copy, if not a 1st gen…
Okay I think most agree that we should try to be proactive in getting
the femmes some much deserved radio play, 2 to 3 minutes that any radio
station is not playing any fred durst or kid rock is a good 2 to 3
minutes as far as I’m concerned.
I requested sleepwalking twice from two different email addresses
yesterday. Its a newer femmes song, upbeat and short. I think its
got a shot of getting some airplay, particularly because it got some
airplay around boston when freak magnet first came out.
But I will request anything be it Every Breath You Take, It’s Gonna
Rain, etc . . .as long as its by the femmes. I’ll commit to send a
request everyday- I think we should get organized and pick one song
that we all request. would some sort of vote of amusic subscribers
be out of the questions?
m.bromley
-Pat. Says: Anyone wanting to vote for a request song, send it to me.
I’ll keep a running total, and run it in the next issue,
which should be sometime Friday. Please send in concert
reviews/experiences. More of you must have gone to the
the Chicago show, and there’s the 1st Ave. show on Thurs.
