The Sequel?

Y-100 Contest
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Radio station Y-100 in Phila area is giving away a trip to the
Caribbean this week to hear the Femmes in concert. No date or location
was given but to win you must listen to the morning show each day when
they name one of the letters of the “word of the week.” On Friday,
one lucky listener (Hopefully me) will win the trip if they can name
the word of the week.
Good luck all you Phila listeners. If I can’t win it I hope one of you
will.
-Pat. Says: Is this the same concert which (I think) Nick (mypen15)
mentioned a few weeks ago? I think the radio station to
which he listens is also having or also had a contest for
a Caribbean show.
Primarily Rarities
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have never been to a Femmes show I didn’t love for one reason or
another but after reading the last issue of AM, I think lots of Femmes
fans out there would love to see a show that isn’t mostly “best known
Femmes songs”. When I listen to their music, I find lots of gems that
they rarely if ever do live.
I realize that some songs don’t lend themselves as well to live
performance and that lots of times the audience is filled with Blister
and Add It UP fans but what about songs like Sweet Misery Blues,
Outside the Palace, This Island Life to name a few. Would we tried and
true fans be the only ones who would enjoy a show of primarily
rarities?

Sleepwalkin’ at Thessaloniki
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I’m was happy to read the Thessaloniki review and to hear the Femmes
have played Sleepwalkin’ at least once already! This is one crazy tune
man! It’s the first Femmes song I’ve ever heard that I would prefer to
hear the REAL story behind it than to come up with one on my own! The 2
track promo has an album version and a clean version and is clearly
marked “from the forthcoming album Freak Magnet.” Also of note is the
cover art – the whole thing (pic & titles) appears to be cut from
construction paper in a child-like manner and it features a little
figure complete with black hat and three legs so I’ve concluded it’s a
male figure (wink, wink). The music’s classic punk, totally electric
with a cool, twangy, Gano guitar riff in the middle. The lyrics are, uh
… provocative – if anyone’s interested I’ll give it my best shot at
translating them.
PS – at the risk of being laughed off this list I have to add that the
chorus reminds me of something REALLY stupid! Have you ever seen
Grease2 (the Grease movie you have to watch with crackers for all the
cheez)? Well the chorus to Sleepwalkin’ reminds of that Cool Rider song
Michelle Pfeiffer sang … I wanna cooooool rider … a cool cool
cool cool rider …
The Sequel?
On the cover of Viva Wisconsin, the little drum kit says “VF2.” Is
this a reference to their new roster of Guy on drums?
And a mini-note: Seeing as how i live in a place that makes it
impossible for me to see the Femmes live (Houston), I would have really
loved to hear Never Tell on the live album. But i guess they would
have had to drop a few others to add that one…
RE: Sweet Worlds
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<
The most acoustic songs on Viva Wisconsin such as Sweet Worlds of
Angels and my personal favorite, Good Feeling are excellent.
Personally, I love the more acoustic sound. In fact that is what drew
me to the Femmes 15 years ago.

Peter Jest / Milwaukee

>- From the notes: “ACG crew: PETER JEST (etc.)”. It seems to be the
>same Peter Jest of the song included in the “Breakin’ up” CD single…
This note was from several issues ago – sorry the response is late. The
Peter Jest listed on the Viva liner notes is indeed the same Peter Jest
on the Breakin Up single. We all owe Peter a HUGE thank you for
organizing the Wisconsin Tour and Dave Vartanian for recording it! It
seems the Femmes are not only blessed with loyal fans like us but also
loyal friends as well. IMHO having those versions of Hallowed Ground,
Life is an Adventure, and Sweet Worlds of Angels on permanent media
just makes the world a better place :o)
Viva VF!
