TRADE, SELL OR BUY
When your wishes are fulfilled, please email
to have your name removed from this section.
In the interest of space, I will remove each
name after it has been up for two weeks. If
you wish to resubmit it at that point, please
do so.

would like the following: Any good Brian Ritchie CD’s, any good bootlegs
with hopefully unrecorded music on it… or covers, American Music,
Singles: Do you Really want to Hurt Me?, I held her in my Arms, Tonight,
Used to Be, plus anything else i may be unaware exists, CD’s only please.
As trade, Alden offers a bootleg of this summer’s Waukesha show, good
quality.

——————-
Would like boots of the following shows:
9/95 Maritime Days
1/96 Winterfest, Icehouse (first show)
7/4/96 Summerfest, Marcus Amphitheatre
8/97 Waukesha County Fair
Plus, I know there was a guy with a video camera at the Winterfest show.

———————–
Wanted: a copy of Film Noir: I have a good quality ’89 show at the
Metro in Chicago to offer in trade…or if anyone else is interested,
i could go for some more femmes material!

——————
Does anyone have any boots from one of those shows that brian ritchie
has taken part in ??? i don’t think he played out to support his
albums..? well anyway an outside of the femmes brian ritchie musical
exhibition would be just peachy to feed my ears and i have some femmes
stuff to trade for it. (i cannot communicate today ughh silly fingers)

——————-
I would love to buy a violent femmes poster, not the new crappy
posters but an old one, It does not have to be super old but before
New Times. I will also offer free copies of “The Mercy Seat” to all
who ask.

——————
I’m new to this list and I joined it after I saw the Femmes at the Lisle
gig in IL. I’m wondering if anyone on the list was there and recorded
the concert. If so, please contact me privately. I would like to arrange
a sale.

————————
I would like to buy a copy of “The Blind Leading The Naked” either on
tape or CD from someone who lives in England (because that is where I
live, too). Sadly I have nothing to offer in return except cold,
hard cash. Alternatively, does anyone know of a record shop which is
likely to be able to get it for me. All the ones I have tried say
that it is no longer available.

-Pat. Says: The last submission is a correction from Monday’s issue.
I put in the wrong return address. All those who responded
to the above post, please respond again to the corrected
address.

——————-
I currently have 4 Femmes boots with more on the way. Here is the list
of them:
8/1/83 New Orleans, LA
1/20/85 Berkeley, CA
9/27/91 Seattle, WA
“Film Noir”
I’m looking for pretty much any Femmes live stuff but especially the
show from 9/16/97 at the Palace in Hollywood, CA, because I was there
and it was by FAR the BEST show I have ever been fortunate enough to
witness.

Musical Preferences.

Bands-
#1 – Violent Femmes
The rest –
Foo Fighters
Nirvana
Metallica
Ramones
The Germs

Songs-
#1 – Dream On – Aerosmith
#2 – School – Nirvana
#3 – Back in Black – AC/DC
#4 – My Poor Brain – Foo Fighters
#5 – Paranoid – Black Sabbath

Concert Bands (from my experiences)
#1 – Violent Femmes (6 concerts and #7 on NOV. 13)
#2 – KISS (what a show)
#3 – Foo Fighters (wail)
#4 – Fragiline Porcelin Mice (opened for Femmes in Rolla, Mo. on St. Pats
96)
#5 – Aerosmith (good show)

The Violent Femmes are my favorite band because of many reasons. BUt the
primary reason is their unique sound. Nothing comes close to bass of
Ritchie (which I idolize), the voice and guitar of Gordon, and the rythem
of Victor and Guy. A true acoustic 3 man band.

VF and the Marching Band..Top 5 Faves
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
hi. just noticed how there’s a lot of people who were/are in groups where
everyone liked the femmes. (i.e x-country) well, i was in band in high
school, (yes, marching band.. i AM a band geek) and everyone HATED the
femmes. a very sad thing indeed, but oh well..
oh.. here’s my five favorite songs (i think)
(not in any order)
femmes- please do not go
smashing pumpkins – disarm
rage against the machine – killing in the name of
new order – blue monday
pizzicato 5 – twiggy, twiggy
well, i think that’s them… i can never tell.. but there’s at least one
more song that gets really close to being on that list, and that’s :
link 80 – verbal kint
oh well.. just my babble 🙂
Classify the VF
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
here’s my post
(hehe this is fun)

Someone said somthing about classifying the Violent Femmes into a music
type. Then they said we should bash “90s trash” and “alternative” music.
I’d like to know what everyone would classify them as. I personally
can’t classify them anywhere-but if I had to classify them-the only
alternative is, well, “alternative” As much as I hate “alternative” music
that category is the only alternative. Get what I’m saying here?
Alternative music is called that for a reason…most of it is crap that
should be called “punk”, “pop” or “crap”. Isn’t that right? Well, I
don’t know if anyone agrees with me. All I know is that I love the Violent
Femmes.

(matt)

P.S. This is just my opinion here-not trying to start any fights.

-Pat. Says: Whenever anyone asks me, I invariably call the music of the
VF “folk-punk”. It serves to confuse the questioner even
more.

A True Johnny Story
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi,
This is just a weird kind of coincedence. The quote of the day from
October 28, 1997 reminded me of it. In the live version of “Johnny” on
the Add It Up CD, my friend Aaron Robinson is one of the people speaking
in the background. He died in ’95 in a car crash. Just thought that I
would share with you all the true meaning of those lyrics to me. Thanks
for listening.
Earplugs: Cool
Not uncool at all!! Wearing earplugs is very important, unless you want
to be a typical deaf old person. As a musician I constantly wear
earplugs, not just when I play but at concerts too. I actually had a
femmes concert literally hurt my ears, I felt pain. It is especially
important in smaller venues, because the volume is never lower.
Agamemnon..Hey Nonny Nonny
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As a senior in high school, i am (supposed to be) reading many greek
tragedies and Shakespeare plays. So far i have noticed 2 allusions
in femmes songs to these readings. One is Agamemnon, which since i
didn’t read the play i’m not too sure if the 2 actually have anything
in common, but last night as i was trying desperately to get through
the 4th act of Hamlet i noticed a line in which Ophelia is singing
“Hey nonny nonny, hey nonny nonny.” Ophelia drowned herself later in
the scene and the femmes song it says something similar to “Beauty
sat bathing by the sea…” I was wondering if anyone knows if these
coincidences have any validity or if my confused state of mind made
me subconciously wish for the femmes while i was reading. Thats it.
If you know anything please respond.

Liz

-Pat. Says: Hey Nonny Nonny is adapted from the 16th Cent. poem “Colin”
by the Shepard Tonie, according to the liner notes from
WDBS. I think hey nonny nonny was a common refrain in songs
and poems of the time, sort of like rama lama ding dong
and the like from the 50’s.
As far as Agamemnon, I would guess Homer as the obvious
source.
