I recently ordered the Violent Femmes Rock!!!!! CD from CD Banzai over
the internet in July and have not recieved it yet. Has anyone purchased
anything from them before, are they reliable? I’m not sure how to
contact them but it really pisses me off. If possible, stay away from
this place.

I always thought the line “third verse, same as the first” was taken from
that sixties song about Henry the eighth. You know, ‘I’m En-er-y the eighth
I am, En-er-y the eighth I am I am.”

>Have the Femmes
>ever played with the Ramones?

I know they have at least once. I saw them both at Lollapalooza in Columbus
this summer. The Ramones went on after the femmes so Brian Ritchie got to
give them a little, informal introduction(something like’The
Ramones!!!!!'(as in, let’s hear it for!!!!!!!!)).

>They are both two of my favorite bands, so
>I figured I’d ask and maybe (if it ever happened) buy a bootleg from

I don’t know if there’s a boot for that show but if I were you I wouldn’t
buy it. The Femmes and the Ramones were great but I’d imagine that the tape
of the Femmes show would include a lot of asinine comments from the
femmes-hating macho boys in the mosh pit. Why they were in the pit when a
band they didn’t like was on stage is still beyond me but I would imagine
that their presence would make for pretty horrid listening. But other than
those fucks the show was incredible. If the boot exists, buy it at your own
risk.

-Bryson

P.S. If anyone else on this list was at that show, were you as pissed off as
I was(and in some ways still am)? Just curious.

If anyone heres anything more about this new release please tell me, i was
expecting it in like december but thats all i knew. Any other info about it
would be great.

Anyone who hasn’t already got ROCK!!!!! Get it now! It is probly one of the
Femmes best releases. I hear a lot of american stores import it.

Has any of the Aussies on the list noticed this list has gotten a lot more
american since i handed the list over to James? Not that thats bad. I mean
the band is american for coots sake. Just an observation.

I said in an earlier post that it is pretty obvious the Ramones influence on
Rock!!! But, it is a good point also that you hear it on the earlier albums
as well. In general I would call the Femmes a pretty “punk” band. That is,
what the Ramones envisioned as punk. Simple, energy, fun and real.

If you want to hear a good Brian Rithie album try “I See a Noise”. It’s got
some funny stuff on it and some regular old good stuff. The thing with Sun
Ra is ok. It’s great if you can really get into Sun Ra. “Space is the
Place!! Yeah!”

Hi I am a new member on the mailing list. But I have been listening to the
femmes for about 3 years. I went to their concert over the summer in
Milwaukee and I wanted to know if any of you Milwaukee people know if they
ever play small shows that not to many people know about.

p.s. anyone know how many songs are on the new cd.

thanx. Bryan Shaw

Hey everyone,

I just went out and picked up the new album by victor delorenzo, pancake
day. I am extremely pleased with it. I was a little worried about it
from past experience with VF members solo projects. I didn’t really like
Sonic Temple and Court of Babylon and only parts of the Mercy Seat.
Completely different story with this one. I’ve had it in the CD player
on repeat for the last 5 hours now. Will take it out soon but 3 songs in
particular have grown on me since first listening when I didn’t know what
to think.

Three favorites in order are:
Picture Her Blue
Audrey
Blind

I really dig the entire album though. Anyone else for faves?

A few years ago (1992) at the Femmes’ Vancouver show I asked Gordon Gano
about their solo pojects and he said that they all had albums released
independently at that time. I knew about Brian’s Sonic Temple already
so Gordon told me about Mercy Seat. I don’t think I ever got the name of
Victor’s and if I did I can’t remember it now. Does anyone know of
anything that Victor would have had out at that time?

cheers,

rob

Alright I found out that the concert is at Iona College in New Rochelle. I
called them and they said that tickets would be on sale on this Monday or
Tuesday(Oct. 28th or 29th). Tickets are $20 and doors open at 7 pm. That
all I know, hope it helps some fellow Femmes fans.
