TRADE, SELL OR BUY

As if this list wasn’t already long enough. I’ve received a lot of
requests from people looking for boots, hard to find albums, posters, and
other VF stuff. If you are looking for something, post your request here.
If you have something you’d like to offer people on this list, post that
here too. If you are selling something, do not charge more than the cost
of the item, plus S/H. If you have a huge collection of boots, please
just say ’email for list’. Let’s start helping each other out, OK? If
this works out, we can all thank Kyle for suggesting it to me so often I
finally saw things his way.

More on FAU Show

To err is to be Ticket Master. The beloved TM has delayed the sale FAU
tickets until October 27. The price is still $10.00, and may or may not
be general admission (depeneds on what person at TM you talk to). TM’s
excuse was the promoters of the Femmes would not release the tickets? I
hope they don’t cancel their only S. FLA show.

this show, and a belated thanks for all you who have done the
same with shows in the past.

The Montclair Show
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
hi this is kara. well last wed. i saw the Femmes in montclair and it was
a pretty good show. Not the best Femmes show i’ve ever seen but still
really good. The Femmes performance was incredible i think. they first
played didgeriblues and ended with add it up….i could tell you all the
songs but i’m felling sort of yucky and sick(sorry). I really hated the
seating deal…it was just so weird, i felt like i was watching a tv or
something and there were all these fancy lights and yes even a fog
machine which made it harder to see…..but that is alright i still had
fun. also the security was just so absurd there were like 25 security
guards standing in front of the stage trying to make sure “nothing got
out of hand” hehehe….one of the funniest things i have ever seen. the
crowd was pretty funny too….most of them sat and looked bored, but i
had a great time anyways =D I had good seats. it was really silly how
they walked down the aisle with their silly instruments i thought. my
lucky friend nina caught brian’s pick again(grrrr) …she is a lucky
girl =D. well i’ll talk to you guys later…bye bye =D
A Great Memory
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My first Femmes show was July 22nd 1989 at Wolftrap farm park in
Virginia. It was a birthday present from my godmother who I’ll love
forever. They had two opening acts ( who I think were the best ever)
Mojo Nixon & Skid Roper started the show and were hilarious. Then The
Pogues came out and were amazing. They even did one encore. By then it
was dark and the audience was pounding on the chairs cheering for the
femmes to come on.
Victor and Brian walked on followed by Gordon. I almost cried, being
that I was almost 14 and was seeing my favorite band. They opened up
with Promise, if memory serves. They had a few people as the horns of
dilemma, and played a wide variety of songs, then only having four albums.
It was the tour for “3” so they played a lot off of that. At one point
after a song Victor looked at Brian and Gordon and pointed towards the
back of the venue, everyone looked back and it was like a sea of people.
When the got to “Add it up” I remember Gordon had some girl jump on
stage and kiss him. He had a huge smile on his face, and he lied down on
the ground while Brian and victor still played. Unfortunatly I lost
site of him, but he was down for a while. The crowd loved it, as did I.
He finally came up and they finished the show, I will never forget it.
Definatley one of the best shows I’ve seen, just thought I’d share for
those of you who actually read this.

Did you ever stop to think that they actually LIKE those bands? Maybe
you just don’t know the bands so you get a little jealous when someone
says they like them. I used to when I was young.

RE: Top 5 Faves

For all of you who read Pat’s wordy and well informed response to my
list, I would like the record to show that I wasn’t talking about Pat.
I also would like to mention that an apology, stating that I was not
talking about Pat was sent to Pat personally. I have, and had, no
intention of getting on Pat for liking Herman’s Hermits. I think that
fact that she has told us all how much she likes them is embarrassing
enough. Pat did have the decency to write me privately and warn me of
her response, but she also said, “there is no room for insulting other
people’s musical tastes….especially the mediator.”

To that I say phoooey! I think that in real life conversations are
bound to lead to some indifference. I think this is yet another attempt
to create a kum-ba-ya newsletter where we all jerk each other off on how
great the Femmes are. I think we would all be better served to allow,
even encourage, different opinions. Not try to monitor and chastise
those who think something is lame.

Again, I am sorry that Pat got upset at my comments about 30 year old
bands. I will try and refrain from being rude, I assure my intentions
were not bad. I will especially watch those aimed toward our
illustrious leader.

-Pat.Says: A debate is a formal discussion of opposing viewpoints. It is
NOT a submission of intentionally inflammatory or insulting
comments with the express purpose of causing others to respond
with anger. It also is not a submission of a perfectly good
topic of discussion, followed by a violent dismissal of all
other opposing viewpoints as stupid or lame. I love to discuss
opposing viewpoints with others, but rarely do they escalate
into heated arguments. I find I learn more that way. I even
sometimes successfully win others over to my way of thinking.

> Personally, I’d like to hear The Cure cover “Color Me Once” from The
> Crow soundtrack…

Though I love The Cure, I just can’t hear them doing any VF song. Robert
Smith’s voice has this great distressful tone to it, where Color Me Once
in particular should keep it’s melodic sound that Gordon does so well
with, imo.
But it’s still an interesting suggestion.

RE: New Spin on Black Girls
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I believe Gordon is married to a black woman at this time. I can’t
remember where that information came from. It was a while back. It may
be that it was influenced by some other girl.
In either case I believe this is one of those VF songs that was
personally inspired in some way.
>Are the Femmes a cross-country tradition anywhere else?
yes!! last year our team put together a tape of songs to listen to on the
bus on the way to meets to get everyone’s energy-flowing and what not…i
think “Tonight”, “Add It Up”, and “Dance Motherfucker Dance” all ended up
on the tape…
>3. Fight Song, Ohio State Marching Band (GO BUCKS)
Claire-
yaaaaayyyyy Buckeyes!
how about for the tribute album, “Black Girls”, with Gordon singing and
the OSU Band as the horn section??? =)
RE: X-Country and the VF..New Year’s Eve
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
subject: reply to cross country and femmes
I am not sure whether or not you would consider this a cross country
tradition or not, but I think that a lot of X country runners love the
femmes because of its upbeat tone. I know that every race I run a femmes
song comes into my mind and I sing it for a couple of miles. I run for
Maryland and we as a whole all agree on the femmes, but I don’t think its
a huge thing to anybody else but me.

subject: New years’ eve show
are the femmes playing at the capital ballroom in dc again this new years
eve. any body have any info, let me know. then I’ll ask who’s interested
in going. also, is there anyplace where I can get cool VF merchandise
like shirts, posters, anything at all? thanks

Bobby V.

-Pat. Says: The merchandise section in the Official Homepage sells
shirts, hats, and Brian’s album. If you like, word your
request as an ad and I’ll put it in the Trade, Buy, Sell
section.

In response to this, I happen to be a huge fan of Live and don’t
believe that just because I like a band I am not “getting the femmes”
any less than anyone else. I like music of all types, including what you
refer to as “basic alternative”. That doesn’t stop the femmes from being
my favorite band and me from feeling like i “get” them. If people only
liked one type of music or one band, think of how limited they’d be. Now
i’m not trying to put down anything you are saying, i just don’t feel
the same.

I see exactly what you’re saying and those type of people do piss me
off, royally, but I happen to like Third Eye Blind, and not just because
of the doo-doo-doo song. i think they are a good band. But I do get
exactly what you’re saying, except I don’t agree that third Eye Blind is
just another knockoff of a knockoff (Bush, Tonic, etc.)

I would like to say that i resent the fact that someone said that fans of
third eye blind and Live arent the same. First of all I live lots of
different music, i just happened to mention those. I could probally name
a least 2 bands or groups from each type of music that I like. Look at
the music you picked not theres anything wrong with it I like alot of it
but dont put us down.

I get lots of questions, and people answer correctly quickly.
