I was reading “SPIN Alternative Music Guide” today and I noticed that
Gordon sites the Ramones self-titled debut as one of his favorite
albums. Now, I know during “Prove My Love” on the Femmes self-titled
debut, Gordon says “Third verse, same as the the first” and on the
Ramones album on Judy is a Punk, Joey Ramone says “Third verse,
different from the first”. Now, is this deeply rooted? Have the Femmes
ever played with the Ramones? They are both two of my favorite bands, so
I figured I’d ask and maybe (if it ever happened) buy a bootleg from
someone.

I am a new member and an old fan. I have been listening to the femmes for
two years or so, but I have never seen them in concert. I was wondering if
anyone knew of a show around Portland, Or (Seattle would be ok) and if so
when. Also, many have been asking about the ROCK!!!!!! album, I guess it
is just in Portland from has been posted, I have it, I can say that I agree
with those that say you just can’t compare New Times and ROCK!!! they are
totally different. If I had to I would say that New Times is better, but
ROCK!!! ROCKS!! (sorry). I love Gordon Gano, if any one else wants to
write to a die hard fanatic lover of Gordon then write to,

The reason you had no luck looking for a new album besides ROCK!!!!!
and New Times is because it has not yet been released. From everything I
have read, the album is done and ready for release, but some label
problems has kept it out of stores. I’m not sure what the album will be
called but it is scheduled for release in Mid-Late January ’97, according
to New Rock 102.One in Milwaukee.
Hopefully a tour will come with the album, huh?

for what ever reasons, there are no plans to release ROCK!!!!! in the
U.S. My guess is that *if* they ever do actually release it here, it
won’t be for a while, because of the new album. It’s a great cd, for
anyone who doesn’t yet have it…but $40 seems really high for it. I
found my copy at a store called The Exclusive Company for $16…

Ok, heres my story.. I need someone to confirm my vision or tell me that I was
halucinating (sp)… I was in LA visiting and went to a CD store just for the
hell of it.. had no intention to buy anything (cuz.. what do ya know.. I had now
$$) and wen’t through the femmes for the hell of it (I already got all their
major albums I can get) and saw a CD I didn’t reckognize (my heart skipped a
beat) I pulled it out (holding my breath) and low and behold.. some new album I
had never heard of or seen!!! It was called something like “Blume” or “Blossum”
or something like that… I can’t remember… it is all so hazy, and it had
about 13-15+ new songs.. I looked at the names of the songs (don’t remember any
names) but I do know that I did not reckognize ANY of them! I need to know if
any of you Femmes junkies out there know anything about this. please respond if
you do

tapes, cds, and vinyl by a friend…and low and behold there are 5, yes 5
things from brian ritchie in there 🙂 i’m quite excited, i have known he
has solo work, but i’ve been too lazy to hunt any down. Here is what they

ok except for the first one that says it is an EP, i have no clue if these
are full length albums, or singles, it doesnt say.

here is how their shipping and handling works, and its damn reasonable,
imo.
$2.00 for the first item ordered, 0.35 for each additional item. its
different for out of the usa, and new york ppl have to add sales tax..and
they go into detail about their policy if you order somethng they no
longer have, so i suggest writing to them and asking for a catalogue
rather than just ordering the stuff from the info i gave. but if anyone
wants to just order and wants the other info email me ([email protected])
and i’ll type the rest of the info out and email it to you. they also
have the violent femmes new times cd for $11.
tons of other musical groups, lots of different styles, i’d check out the
catalogue.

ok now for david’s question about the album rock and if it will be
released in the usa. my guess is that it is not going to be released
here, and holy shit dont pay $40 ! that really sux that is the price it is
around you where do you live? i got mine for like $20. for david, or
anyone else that cant get it too cheap its like $20 around here plus tax
that brings it up to 21.50. i would more than gladly get any copies i can
of the cd and mail them to ppl who cant find it, or its too expensive
where they are. i dont think it would cost too much for shipping either,
in the us anyway..prob $2 or so..my guess is it would cost you aobut $24
dollars. if anyone is interested please email me privately and let me
know. if you want/need me to get it for you i’ll only charge the exact
cost it costs me to purchase and send it, the same store also has the
machine single for $6, they may have the breakin up single..but i havent
seen it for awhile, it is an import from germany, $10. let me know

i saw him in milwaukee this summer at summerfest and checked him out cause
he is a former femmes member and all..but i just do not care for his
music. oh well.i tried.

I’ve been seeing alot of activity on this list from people asking “Does
anyone know when the next time the Violent Femmes are coming to:_________”

I have a proposal to make. STOP IT. I really believe that if anyone
knows anything about a violent femmes tour or concert coming up we will
hear about it without having to ask. I would hope that there are no
readers of this list who would keep this kind of information from the
rest of us.

That being said, I would also like to propose that any known concert
listing be posted to the mailing list in a section all their own by the
moderator. Is this possible, James? Maybe just before or after the
table of contents. Maybe right at the end?

This way if anyone knows of any confirmed (or tentative) dates they can
mail the list once and our friendly moderator can make sure they are on
every email to go out from then until the posted date. What does
everyone think? It does seem to be something that everyone absolutely
needs to know.
