****I’ve been a subscriber to “American Music” for a couple of weeks now
and am disappointed that so many people choose to spend their time arguing
over how old you have to be, why the name should or shouldn’t be “American
Music”, and what makes you a so called “true fan”- reading that is a waste
of everyones time!!
****The point is that we all subscribed to this thing because in one way
or another we all like the Violent Femmes music. Why does it matter if
the only song that someone likes is BITS?? I just don’t see what
difference it makes. BITS is a Femmes song, and if you like BITS then you
like a song by the Femmes. (And for those of you that are going to guess
that the only album that I own is the self titled one -you’re wrong.)
****So, I don’t mean to bitch, I just wanted to say what I think needed
to be said.

🙂 Jade

-Pat. Says: Did everyone listen to that? Because I agree with her
completely. These true fan and age threads have been going
on since I took over this list, and frankly I’m sick to death
of it. After all, what with editing, arranging, and all that
I read each post about 4 times from the time I receive it
till I shoot it out to all of you. Please have pity on your
poor, poor moderator and let it go already. Pleasepleaseplease

Let me start out by saying I appreciate the consistancy of the new
mailing list…it comes much quicker & more often than ROCK! did. And I
like the who/where feature a lot.
Does anybody know where I can get tickets to the Lisle, IL show? And is
anybody else here going? I didn’t see it on the who/where list.
I’m a 19 year-old student at UW-Milwaukee double majoring in elementary
Education & early childhood, and have lived in the Milwaukee area my
whole life. Yes, the home of the Femmes! I’m suprised I haven’t seen that
many Milwaukee fans posting on the list…In fact I was suprised the
first time I ever met a Femmes fan who didn’t live in Wisconsin. If
there’s any Wisconsin fans out there, please e-mail me. I saw the Femmes
at Maritime Days a few years ago, at Winterfest (Icehouse) on 1/18/96
(the first show), Summerfest (Marcus Amphitheatre) on 7/4/96, and at the
Waukesha County Fair last summer. I see them everytime they come around
the Milwaukee area. If anybody out there has bootlegs of any of these
shows, please e-mail me right away…I’ve been seeking these out
desperately! I have a lot to trade.
thanks,

Tom

>The Horns of Dilema were awesome. There were little kids playing
>instruments–it was great.

FYI– the “little kid”, assuming you mean the Waukesha County Fair
concert July 19th, is Brian’s nephew. He plays with them, along with his
dad, whenever they’re in the Milwaukee/Madison area. he’s a really really
good tuba player (so is his dad) and a good friend of mine too. just
thought i’d share =)

I was wondering if anyone knows where Gordon got the idea for the song Out
the Window. It’s one of my favorite songs by them. I heard it came from
a movie,but I’m not really sure.

Hi I am Dan Stamm from Philly and I have been into the femmes for about
a year and a half now. I have seen them once and just must agree with
what u said…
First my fave bands are the femmes, NIN, Chili peppers, Bloodhound Gang
and DEVO.
Lots of people I think have a problem with me liking the femmes.
of course most of them are other teens who think the femmes just aren’t a
cool enough band for a 16 yr. old guy to like. Lts of othr guys my age
won’ give the Femmes the time of day to start with because they put them
on a queer band level with bands like Depeche Mode. I am sorry, it is
their loss. The femmes are amazing. I hve only felt that much energy at
one other show ever, NIN. The energy that I felt on April 30 @ Univ. of
Delaware is uncomparable to anything else. So what if half the crowd
were half naked and drunk colege students that were moshing and crowd
surfing. They were just coveying the energy they felt from the Femmes on
stage. To anyone that has a problem with a punky moshing kid like me
enjoying the femmes, to bad, I m here to stay

Thanks for reading this,

Dana I agree with u all the wy.

Dan Stamm

I have 4 of their albums and sometimes just sit and rock out to them.

won’t let me make love to you why can’t I get just one fuck…………..

Ok, this is a little bit stupid, but it’s been bothering me for a while. .
Months before I joined this list I had some trouble with Xtopher and
azure (eruza?) on efnet #violentfemmes (irc). They said they were “from
the list” and I would really like to talk to them about stuff that
happened. . . . SO, if you’re out there. . . ya know.

Femmes Fans-
I have two words for all the people making comments on Gordons weight
—STOP IT!!
First off, who cares what he looks like as long as he plays good music.
Secondly, lets see how skinny you would be if you toured constantly
without a break. Touring puts a lot of stress on the body so why don’t
you guys give Gano a break? Just my two cents.

Hey all you Femmes fans out there! I’ve loved Violent Femmes ever
since I was a little kid. (I had an older brother and sister who both
listened to VF) I think when you’re young, older siblings have a
big influence on the music you listen to. Most of the music I listen
to now is stuff I started listening to because of my brother. He
opened me up to so many different groups, like VF, They Might Be
Giants, King Missle, Trip Shakespeare, and many others. I can’t think
of a good way to end this letter, so goodbye for now……..TONI

P.S.- Anybody else’s sibs influence what they listen to today?
