-Pat. Says: I checked the WPLT homepage, Pine Knob homepage, U2 pages,
Pollstar…can’t get confirmation of U2 being there. I’m
going to listen to the station online tomorrow, see if I
can hear the commercial myself.

I live in Victoria, Australia, and I just thought that I would tell
you that it is still to early to get tickets to the Falls Festival.
They will probably go on sale around october/november, I will inform
you when I get the exact date.

Hi, Pat. From my recollection of their show here, yes, it is the same
song. VF’s version is slower than the original. However, Mr. Ritchie’s
vocals and the accompaniment of the Horns of Dilemma make VF’s version
the preferable choice for me.
According to the liner notes on “Born to Choose,” the song is written
by Donn and Terry Adams. Terry Adams is NRBQ’s keyboard player and
one of their vocalists. I’ve only ever seen NRBQ twice briefly…they
opened for R.E.M. on the “Green” tour and I remember seeing them on a
TV show called “Night Music.” Didn’t have much an opinion on their
music then…not much now either.

Re: Don’t Talk About My Music
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ok- so now I’m really interested. Because when I heard Brian sing it
(“Don’t Talk About My Music”) at the Pabst Theater in Milwaukee last
October it really sounded like a song the Femmes had written. It was
perfect for them.
If someone else did it, did the Femmes change some lyrics or just add a
verse or what — because I can’t imagine someone else would have
written “They won’t release our album/They say it sucks/But if you
don’t like the Femmes/Why don’t you get fucked”… or something to that
extent.
anybody know more about this song’s origins??
RE: Punk?
<< does anyone else out there listen too this kind of music or will i
now be banished from the list >>
At one time the Femmes were def considered punk – I’m gonna date myself
and say if you’re getting into NOFX you should consider Black Flag,
SNFU, the Stooges and Poison 13!
RE: Punk?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In response to Joel asking if the Femmes are considered “Punk”, I must
say that it’s completely an age/area thing. You see, in ’81 I was
eleven years old, growing up in the outskirts of Duluth, MN. Vixen was
“Heavy Metal”, REM was “Alternative”, Anthrax was “Thrash”, or “Skater
music”, and therefore Violent femmes were “Punk” right next to Sex
Pistols, the Dead Milkmen and even Soft Cell.
When you have children (I assume you don’t) that listen to the
equivalent of Marilyn Manson and call that “Mainstream Pop” you’ll
understand why labels mean different things to different people.
Hope I helped (and didn’t harm).

Mercy Seat
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi Pat,
An excellent album for any femmes fan to listen to is Mercy Seat with
Gordon Gano. This gospel album that Gordon participated in is available
on ebay this week and guaranteed to please.
-Pat. Says: I also highly recommend this album (it’s vinyl), but don’t
expect Gordon’s voice to be front and center.
This reminds me: anybody know Greek? Glenn sent me a scan
of a poster he bought (thanks for that); I’d love to figure
out the date of the show (so Nick can add it to his list),
but…it’s all Greek to us!
