RE: State Song
A Sun story from James Welborn
Wimbleton Blister?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, we were on vacation last week, and Scott had so many things
crammed into those few days that I couldn’t even get a single issue
out! We spent a few days in Ocean City, NJ, two days racing (ended by
a three hour stay at the hospital–but Austin’s OK, and will probably
race again Saturday), and today was Ethan’s birthday (9).
Check out the What’s Happening section of the Official Homepage. The
band has signed with a new label. I’ve tried in vain to find out
anything about it; all the links I’ve found are either unable to locate
or not allowed. At any rate, it looks like there is finally some good
news!

Solo Date
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Carrie & I got another show in this weekend – well most of a show
anyway. Before Summerfest the last show we got to go to together was
June of ’98 and now 2 shows in less than a week! Ain’t that a
hootenanny?!? :o)
I love Atlanta but there are just too many DAMN Peachtree streets!
Argh! Anyway we got 2/3’rds of a Marlboro show in. But to the point –
the homepage has Brian’s solo date WRONG! I would hate for anybody to
start planning a trip for Aug 20 when in fact his Knitting Factory date
is really Aug 30th.
Here’s the scoop & a link to the KF’s page:
Straylight Dialogues w/
Brian Ritchie
Well known for his work with the Violent
Femmes, special guest Brian Ritchie
(acoustic bass guitar, shakuhachi,
didjeridu) will present the international
side of his musical voice as he explores
the languages of improvised music with
Straylight’s members Jason Finkelman
(berimbau, riti, percussion), Charles
Cohen (Buchla music easel), and Geoff
Gersh (guitar).
cough, cough, cough – 200 too many Marlboro’s,
Deana
RE: Cake vs. the Femmes
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

> This show is definitely Cake opening for the Femmes.

Is it possible for bands to co-headline? 🙂 In the paper they’re both
pictured, and names are of the same size. On my ticket both names are
the same size, and it doesn’t seem apparent that one band is the
headliner. Although Femmes are always listed first. If I had to place
bets now I’d say they’re going to play equally long sets, Femmes first
then Cake.

I’m excited for both… more so since I won’t be getting to see
Morphine this summer or ever again. (SNIFF!)
