Hi everyone,
I was at the Summerfest show on Friday and couldn’t disagree more
with Andy Tarnoff’s review. I responsed to him and told him so
Highlights were the extra wonderful Horns of Diemma performances
including Brian’s nephew on Sousaphone and a beautiful young girl on
flute, Brian and Gordon’s solos on Gimme the Car. (the place went
nuts), and Gordon’s beautiful Bridge over Troubled Waters.
Guy and Johnny’s Black Girls drum solo was really a crowd pleaser.
I did agree with Andy’s comments about Sigmund Snopek’s performance.
He is such a musical treasure.
I’m going to both the Denver and Aspen shows so I’ll write more
later.

Hi,
Just wanted to comment on your review of the Femmes show at
Summerfest.
Were we at the same show? I found the show really energetic and the
crowd totally enthusiastic. At least my section of the crowd was.
(first row). When you think that the younger members of the audience
were probably in diapers or training pants when the Femmes first played
those songs, it’s pretty amazing that they still know every syllable of
every song by heart and sing along with total joy and abandonment.
True, the Femmes don’t jump around as they used to but I found the
improvisation on well known numbers more a creative gesture than “a
mangling of songs they’ve been performing for two decades.”
If the Femmes looked old, it’s because they aren’t 17, 25 or even
30 anymore. We are just going to have to forgive them for aging just
like the rest of us someday will. To still be able to put so much
energy and elicit such an audience response after two decades really
amazes me. They are one band that never disappoints.
I would agree with you that Sigmund Snopek’s performance was as
always a silver lining. He is a musical treasure.
Anyway, I’ll be back next year, making my pilgrimage from Phila.
(A plane to Chicago, a Blue route train to Union station. Amtrak to
Milwaukee, shuttle bus to Summerfest) to see them again. For me, it
was a journey well worth the effort.

I vote for All I Want -Alt. Version
I love it, wife loves it.
Both my kids (8 and 2) love it.
Everyone I ever play it for loves it.
The same goes for Raquel, but All I Want is a little radio friendlier
(and a little longer i.e. more air time)..

The Yellow Freak Magnet vers. cuts out a whole section of the song..

Oh Yes is a great song… Yet it was cut from Yellow FM???
I’ve made a compilation cd for my 8 year old (of all the clean songs)
and Yes Oh Yes is one of her faves (mine too.)
For myself, to satisfy my freak needs, what I did was make a new CD

Been a femmes fan since Hallowed Ground. I enjoy Blister2000 more
than BITS-orig. Only had privilege of seeing VF once.
FREE at a Univ. South Florida event… A Homecoming thing (which I
hate).
It was hilarious. Half the people there were freakz like me.. The
other half for Sorority types who could care less about VF…

It has been good to see Amercan Music floating into my e-mail box
again. I will vote for All I want. I think it will be one of the
songs that fans remember later on. I had to learn to play it right
away when i first heard it. Maybe the Femmes will play near this way.

I have a sad little Femmes-related story and a request to the good
readers of American Music. About 4 years ago I was in a record shop
in Houston and, out of boredom, looking through their folder of
stickers for sale when I found a Femmes sticker – a black vinyl sticker
that says VF in yellow lower case letters. I happily bought it and put
it on my car – then about 6 months later i was hit by a drunk driver,
the car totaled, the sticker gone.
So i got a new car and a new sticker at the same store, all well and
good, until the floods of Houston hit about 3 weeks ago and wiped out
my second car.
The car can be replaced (it’ll just cost me…a lot…ugh) but the
record store is out of that VF sticker so I ask you, the people – can
i get that sticker on the web anywhere? I’ll someday have a car to
put it on, and hopefully it won’t blow up or float away again.
