Amazon.com

so I type up “violent femmes” at amazon.com and among the usual, I get
“step right up.” Does anyone have any clue what this is? All I know is
that it is associated with Tom Waits (a tribute album perhaps?), and
it’s a combo of songs by various artists. They have a sound bite of a
song sung by the Femmes, called “Step Right Up.”
If any of you folks are interested, go to amazon.com. adios!

This site also has a track listing for that Les Enfants du Rock ‘N Roll

Anyone ever heard of a label called Slat or Alex?? How about our
Australian listers – can you help out with this???
Also they have another bootleg listed from ’92 –
called “Australian Tour.”
I’ve never heard of this one before. Anyone have any info on this???

-Pat. Says: I tried Deana’s links, and neither one of them worked. In
addition, since they used symbols not supported by my
computer in some way, the entire newsletter came out
double spaced when I checked it by sending to myself. This
happens sometimes. But what you need to do is go to the
All-Music Guide Site, the closest I could come is
http://205.186.189.2/cg/AMG.exe That’ll give you an error
but ignore it and just do a Violent Femmes search. The
‘flamingo’ is I would assume a reference to Brian’s…um…
attire.

Machine on Real World
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was watching MTV and the first episodes of the Real World were on. I
don’t know what year it was, but the London episode played the song
Machine. They didn’t play any of the words, but they played the song for
about 10 or 15 seconds. Just thought I’d let you all know.
I hear this just about every time I watch the Pittsburgh Penguins. I
wonder what the connection is between Blister and hockey?
Also, this line about “better to burn out than fade away”; I’ve also
heard that line in a tune by Def Leppard. Pyromania, I think. Don’t
ask me how I knew that.
Besides the VF song with the same title, does anyone know where the line
“36-24-36” also appears? I know of at least one song. (And NO it’s not
Def Leppard!)
Not Fade Away
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ok, this has absolutly nothing to do with the Femmes, I apologize, but
I had to respond to “Fade Away”…I hope you know that “Its better to
burn out than to fade away” is NOT a Cobain quote, but a Neil Young
quote, from “Hey Hey, My My”
-Grover53
-Pat. Says: I think most of us know that by now, and I suppose we also
all know that Nirvana played with the VF. The question I
have is, did the VF ever play with Neil?

RE: Cover As Ska
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hey everybody! Thanks for all the ska suggestions, and I think I’ve
decided what to go for first. We’re going to try “BITS” first I think,
just becuase it’s short and has a lot of leeway with our wonderful horn
section; and because we’re playing the 4th of July Celebration in a San
Diego neighborhood, I think we’ll go for “American Music” as our finale.
They’re well-known tunes, and I think we can ska-ify them well enough.
Thanks again to everyone who gave suggestions!
Claire
