by none other than the Violent Femmes!

or BMW? Not that it makes a whole hell of a lot of

Radio Plays What They Want You to Hear

As far as pressuring radio stations to play femmes songs, I know I’ve
called a couple of times to request “sleepwalking” when Freak Magnet
first came out, after I heard it on a local radio station.
WFNX (101.7) in Boston even played it a couple times a day for a period
of about two weeks when Freak Magnet came out. They even gave away
copies of the album to listeners. Unfortunately the main “alternative
rock” station in Boston, WBCN gave the album no airplay at all, the
only femmes song they play at all is Blister (they actually overplay it
in my opionion). There are other femmes’ songs out there that are
recognized by the general public (i.e. american music, kiss off, add
it up) that radio stations in this area refuse to play.
As far as a suggestion of a song to push for I would choose Something’s
Wrong or All I Want. Personally I love Werewolf, but I think it may be
too disturbing . . .

Yeah, that werewolf track is the hottest on the album, I think. You’re
right Deana, it must be from the Pabst show, absolutely.
In regards to the BMW ad, rock on VF. Pat summed it up best – they
didn’t sell out, they just sold. And good for them. What about all the
freakin radio stations that still blast BITS? Did VF sell out b/c
they’re getting radio play? C’mon now.
My only complaint is that I don’t have cable to see the freakin
commercial.

I just want to say to Deana that the Werewolf song was recorded at the
Milwaukee show or at the La Crosse show since that was the only two
shows they played it at during the tour.

Breifly in response to Deana from the last issue, the Werewolf track is
definitely from the Pabst theater show, because i talked to Gordon
after the show about that song and the guy who wrote it, although now
i can’t remember a single thing he told me, except that he (Gordon) was
a big fan of the songwriter.

w emusic, I have never used it before..can u buy JUST the femmes album
or it appears u need a 3 mo membership?
also..they used to have oh reggie and my way on their site (they are
gone now) and the qual was much better..is there anyway to get the
qual better? they dont sound like getting an MP3 on napster or winmx
etc..any ideas?

I don’t know whether the quality of these will satisfy the
discerning ear, but give it a shot if you want. I used to
have an account on fortunecity, but found out this week
they will no longer support mp3, so I’ve been working since
6 am on moving all my files to a new web site. So, go to
