Happy Birthday Gordon
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A big happy 38th birthday wish to Gordon. Apparently he shares the
same birthday as Tom Jones, Prince, and Eric Kretz of the Stone Temple
Pilots. The only famous person I know that has my birthday is Kevin
Costner. But Janis Joplin’s the day after.
Taste of Randolph Street 2001
Some of Chicago’s trendiest restaurants take it to the streets at this
West Side party.
Where:
Randolph Street
Chicago, IL
When:
5:00 pm-10:00 pm Friday, Jun. 22
12:00 pm-10:00 pm Saturday, Jun. 23
12:00 pm-10:00 pm Sunday, Jun. 24
Event Profile:
The Food:
Randolph Street is often referred to as Restaurant Row, and
for good reason: Many of this strip’s restaurants are trendy
and acclaimed. Most Randolph restaurants sponsor food booths
at this festival, which offers tastes of a dozen West Side
eateries. This year’s vendors include Bar Louie, Jak’s Tap,
one sixtyblue, Ina’s, Hi Ricky, Sushi Wabi, March, Millennium,
Red Light, Vivo and more.
The Entertainment:
If schmoozing over fine food doesn’t hold your attention by
itself, you can look forward to live music–performers this
year are Soul Asylum(Friday), Cracker (Saturday) and Violent
Femmes (Sunday). Also, furniture and textile sales will be
featured, plus displays of merchandise and works by resident
artisans. This event benefits the West Loop Gate Community
Organization. Meghan McEwen and J.P. Anderson
Who’s There:
Foodies, plus young, adventurous eaters who don’t have the
cash to drop at the area’s restaurants.
Austin Info???
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The only Summerfest in Austin I could find on the internet was a ham
radio operator convention, first weekend in August. Does anyone know
what’s up with this show?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Memories and Austin
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was 16 years old when i saw the Femmes for the
first time back in ’94. They were by far my favorite
band along with Grateful Dead and Talking Heads. I’ve
grown alot since that first show and have seen and
listened to alot of music since. My tastes and
interests in music have expnaded to the blues, jazz,
country, rap, classical, cubano…and on and on and
on. So its not that we don’t care anymore, its just
that we have a lot of others things to care about as
well.
I saw the femmes in June of 2000 and they were just
as good as ever and I’m looking more forward than ever
to see them again this June 30th in Austin.
