The Quote Of The Day:

I said I don’t live in Chicago, I don’t know no Al Capone.
That bitch took my money and went to Chigago.
If I ain’t already enough sick and alone.
-From To The Kill
-Submitted by LilBoek
-Pat. Says: I usually save that quote for Aug. 18, which is the
birthday of someone very close to me who had that exact
thing happen to him.

New Web Page

Ladies and gentlemen my name is thefemmeking. I would like to
cordially invite you to visit the newest Femmes site on the web. The
page is in its “humble beginnings” stage but I call it home. The links
are intentionally not turned on yet and the only way for you to find
out what’s behind those icons is to visit the page and send me an email
telling me what you think of it so far. Bribery? You got it! For
every 100 hits I’ll turn on a link!
oooweeeooo everybody’s surfin’ now come on and surfari with me …

-Pat. Says: This looks as if it will be a very interesting page. Nice
pictures, and great arrangement of them. Check out the
page, click on the links which aren’t there yet, write the
guy a letter…and check back again often enough to turn
on those links!

Toad’s Place?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
hey
about the show at toad’s place. i heard it is an all ages show, even
though toad’s place is usually 21+. as long as it is an all ages (or
at least 18+) show and it is not sold out yet then i am going.
-Pat. Says: I checked out the Toad’s Place homepage
http://www.toadsplace.com
and found that it is indeed an all ages show. Check out the
homepage, and then call to see if there are still tickets. There
is a phone number on the homepage to call, with a 203 area code.
Is it still 203 in New Haven? Because everyone I call back home
is now 860.
BTW, tix are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Doors open at
8, show starts at 9, and there are two opening bands; Double Dong
and Paradise Vendors (acoustic). I can’t believe after all these
years, Toads Place is still going strong.
New Gordo Song
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
OK, I was flipping through the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on Friday,
and whose name jumped out at me in bold print? None other than our
beloved, Gordon Gano! Why, you ask? Good question. Here’s why — he
has lent his vocal talents to a new song by our also beloved Sigmund
Snopek which is available on a new compilation disc:

Linneman’s Riverwest Inn … recently compiled and recorded and is now
about to release “Milwaukee Sampler,” a 16-track CD consisting of acts
that have frequently played the bar.
The disc serves as a fairly representative sample of the city’s
popular music scene east of I-43 and north of downtown. Other artists
featured on the disc (previously mentioned included The Lackloves,
Mike Jarvis, Amy Rohan, Vida Blue, and more) include local music
figurehead SIGMUND SNOPEK, whose “Turnaround” includes cameo verses by
BoDean Sammy Llanas, former Talking Head Jerry Harrison, and Violent
Femmes singer Gordon Gano.

OK, back to me again… the article says that other artists on the
disc include: Azz Kitchen, Moriarty, Li’l Rev, Freshwater Collins,
Sarah Kozar, Front of Truck, Muddpie, and Waking Roland. The article
closes by saying that the CD costs $10, which really sounds like a good
deal to me. It does not, sadly, say how to acquire one of these CDs.
I’ll try calling Linneman’s, and let you know if I figure anything out.
(If you want more info on this you can email me…)

So for those of you desperate to hear somthing new from Gordon, here’s
a start!

RE: I Killed My Lovely Daughter
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
About the “I Killed My Lovely Daughter” Im Thinking thers only one
person behind the whole thing who is making them—If you notice the
front cover is a cut out from a promo poster from wensday November 17,
93 at the kansas Union Ballroom, also when this item sells its always
the same title and description, notice though that the seller of this
has always got “0” Feedback and the server of his E-Mail is either
“CoinTrunk” Or “Aledwards” this CD has come into auction Now 4 times
and never has it been on at the same time as another so if you really
look at it its obviously being done by one person and a CD printer–
also does anyone know anything of Kiss Off–I own the CD but its not
really a BootLeg It was copyedd Directly over No Lets Start over video
there the exactly the Same no difference at all after all if you were
in the crowd you would have heard different background noises than if
you were on stage recording it but everythings exact does anyone know
if this is an official import release or not???
thanx
RE: Gordon– “Realiser”/Producer — Louise Attaque
Hmmm, y’all haven’t been paying attention to the Official Femmes
page, have ya? According to the page, Louise Attaque’s CD was awarded
Diamond certification, a level above platinum that we don’t have here,
and our lovely Gordon produced it. The Femmes wanted to thank all of
us rabid fans who went out and bought the CD simply for this teeny
Femmes link…
Anyway, everybody keep the spectacular concert stories coming in!
Obsessed fans like me who’ve never had the opportunity to see the guys
live LOVE to hear about the fan’s antics as well as Gordon’s, Brian’s,
and Guy’s. I live vicariously through you guys… so thanx for taking
the time to sit down and share. Love y’all…
>In the Paris concert, Gordon has sung “savoir” from the French band
>”Louise Attaque”. Nobody, including me, knew the song very well around
>me. Recently, I heard the album of “Louise Attaque” and I was charmed
does anyone know if Louise Attaque CDs are available in the states? I
heard them in France a year ago and really liked them. I heard them on
some music channel.
RE: Louise Attaque
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A couple of facts on the French (and talented) band Louise Attaque:

Louise (old fashioned female name) Attaque (Attacks)… see something
here… Louise Attacks – Violent Femmes (Femmes means Women in French)?
Louise-Femmes Attacks-Violent? Yep you’re right, Louise Attaque named
themselves after their favourite band, the good ol’ Femmes. Which is
why they had the idea to send Gordon a demo tape of their work…
Gordon loved it, and decided to produce Louise’s first album! Gordon
(and Warren Bruleigh apparently) worked with them in Brussels on some
of the songs.

Has somebody else got info re: the relationship between Louise and the
Femmes? If you got a chance to listen to their album, simply called
“Louise Attaque” (it might not be easy to get it outside the French
speaking countries), do it, because that stuff is really, really good,
completely in accordance with the spirit of the Femmes. They’re safe.

PS: and the French lyrics sound great! Arumph!

“J’t’Emmne Au Vent”
(http://www.multimania.com/iceman2/lyrics/lyrics/artists/louise-attaque.htm)

Allez viens, j’t’emmne au vent
Je t’emmne au-dessus des gens
Et je voudrais que tu te rappelles
Notre amour est ternel et pas artificiel

Violent Ramones?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On a typical texas road trip, i played She Went To Germany for my
girlfriend, who somehow recognized it. She’s not a femmes fan and
therefore doesn’t own any of their australian imports, of course. Then
she realized where she had heard it before: she says it’s originally a
Ramones song. Could this be another Femmes cover that i never even
realized? Huh. Anyone who knows more about the Ranmones let me know.
Oh yeah, everyone should see Rock n Roll High School. Not the lame
80’s version with Corey Haim, though, the original w/ the ramones.
-Pat. Says: I checked the liner notes, and nothing is attributed to the
Ramones. The Violent Femmes are usually pretty good about
giving credit where credit is due (except for that bit in
the middle of Gone Daddy Gone, and a couple of stray lines
here and there), so unless your girlfriend can actually
play the Ramones song for you as proof, I’d say it’s a
Gordon original, although it may be heavily influenced by
a particular Ramones song or Ramones songs in general.
I don’t actually have any Ramones records right now, and
it was a long, foggy time ago.
Need to Find a T-Shirt
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
pat-
Back last May of 1998.
I saw the violent femmes at the CPR fest. There was a shirt there with
a Japanese cartoon character on it and it said “Why can’t I get just
one fuck?” I really wanted to but it, but I had no money. does anyone
know where I can find it?

LONDON SHOW- BRIAN RITCHIE
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was at the Femmes show in London and have a query for anyone who was
there. At the show Brian Ritchie sang a song on his own but I am not
sure what it was called. The song went something like IF YOU DONT LIKE
MY MUSIC THEN TOUGH !! I am sure these are not the words but they are
someting along those lines. If anyone has the title of the song and
knows where I can get a copy please let me know.
PS The show was awesome and we need them back soon.
