More news on those Newport Folk Fest dates which were on the Official
Homepage, then disappeared, then appeared and disappeared again. It is
true that the Newport Folk Fest IS touring this year. Cities are not
yet firmed up, but should be within the next week. Let’s all keep our
fingers crossed that the VF will ultimately be included in the lineup.

Some Danbury Info

As stated above, the Danbury show is at the Charles Ives Center. That’s
on WESTSIDE CAMPUS, which is on Lake Avenue. Gates open at noon, but
the band is not slated to start till 2:30. I have no idea how much it
will cost to get in, but a student there (with the unlikely nickname of
Franky Pelvis) told me he does not expect it to cost too much. I don’t
even know if it’s a student only thing, because nobody at Student
Activities ever bothered to respond to my email, and one student from
my old hometown (Waterford, CT) never answered either. BOOHISS.

I may be starting an untrue rumor here, but just today a friend of mine
told me he heard on the radio that the new Femmes album will be released
May 19. I said, this is impossible due to them going their seperate
ways with Interscope. Regardless, I thought I’d check it out. I went
to my local Blockbuster Music and asked to see a list of upcoming album
releases. The lady was very kind, whipped out this book of upcoming
releases, and there it was Violent Femmes—–Freak Magnet——May 19.
I wasn’t completely satisfied yet. I checked to see what label it was
coming out on and sure enough, it wasn’t Interscope. It was some company
I had never heard of that started with a U. I encourage anyone to
investigate this further. Woa Nelly, I hope this aint no rumor.

-Pat. Says: May 19 was the original release date scheduled for Freak
Magnet. As far as I know, there is no new release date as
yet. I THINK they’re hoping to release it before this Fall.
Of course I could be wrong…it’s been known to happen.

both my friend and his cousin have that set. they got it free (maybe
it was a couple dollars or so) in the mail from an offer that came with
a discman. i forget what brand it was. i’m not sure if that’s the only
way to have originally gotten it, but i kind of think so.

Misinterpretations

Okay first of all Travis, that was my post, and like Pat said I did NOT
say that I definitely think Gordon is gay, I just said that there
*might* be some slightly implying lyrics in some of his songs that
*might* imply him swinging *both* (meaning “bi”, not “gay”) ways (and
many people who swing *both* ways are married like Mick Jagger or David
Bowie)…or at least those lyrics could be not directly from his
personal perspective, or they could just mean that he is okay with
homosexuality & has nothing against that…that’s all I was saying…I
was leaving it open for interpretation & curiosity…I wasn’t saying
that I definitely thought he was gay or anything. And your post seemed
to agree with my point even though you were trying to argue against it.
And I don’t know how in the world you got anything at all about me
supposedly being against Jesus or anything like that by me simply
saying that he’s “big on Jesus”!!! Was I understating too much for
you or something? Because I absolutely have nothing against Jesus at
all & I think he’s great, and that’s great that Gordon’s very religious.
When I said that he’s big on Jesus I was saying just that…that he’s
very religious…how in the world would my saying that imply that
there’s anything wrong with liking Jesus? I certainly didn’t imply
that.
And I also never said ANYTHING against gays…I was only quoting what
Reggie White said in his speech, because people in the list wanted to
know exactly what he said. And if you had bothered to *read* my whole
post, you would’ve seen that I added my own personnal opinion at the
end that I am very supportive and open-minded about all types of people
& that I would never never never judge anyone on their religion or their
sexuality! That was the point of my entire post!!!! I don’t know how
you could’ve misinterpreted it for the opposite, but it’s very insulting.
I am big on Jesus myself, and I have friends that are gay…they’re very
cool people & fun to talk to. I have friends of all different religions
& races, and stuff. The whole point of my post was about having an open
mind & appreciating people for their diffrences. Why am I getting
stabbed in the back for that?

PS- Sorry about all the non- VF debating this topic has brought…I
hate when the internet brings tension among fellow fans of the same
great rock group…we should be being brought together with open minds
& not back-stabbing each other over mindless misinterpretations of
opinions.
