I love that quote because I can refer to it or just sing it constantly
whenever someone says “Why is a band of three men called the Violent
FEMMES?”

Thanks,

Danica’s Back
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yeah! I’m so happy!! I moved to Hawaii in June and the last concerts
held there were NSync and Ricky Martin so you can guess when the last
time I went to a show was. I came home a few days ago and to my
surprise learned that the Femmes are playing two shows in DC while I’ll
be here. That’s just a 25 minute drive so I will definitely be going
both nites. Hope to see some of you there!
I’ll be the one screaming that Brian Ritchie has a nice butt.
-Pat. Says: Does he? Well, I guess everyone’s just going to have to
check it out, then.
Manchester and DC
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, I went to Manchester, England on 4/6 for the Femmes show but they
didn’t. It seems that the show has been rescheduled for 5/21 or 5/22.
I was so disappointed but visited with my daughter who is living in
Leeds. We had such a wonderful time and spent time in Manchester (home
of The Smiths and Oasis), Liverpool (home of some group that starts
with a B), Leeds (home of my daughter, Rachel), Skipton (home of some
cool sheep and lambs and a 10th century castle), and London (Home of
Queen Elizabeth, I hear).
I’m heading down to 930 Club in DC for the 4/17 and 4/18th shows.
(Are you ready Deana and Bec?) and if they reschedule these, I’m going
to take it personally.

-Pat. Says: If anyone in England finds out anything about the new date
in Manchester, please write to me.

WA, OR, and Question
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Some information:
I will be at both Washington shows and the Portland show. I have a
hotel room reserved near the venue in Washington so if anyone is coming
from out of state I wouldn’t be objectionable to an after show party or
meeting. I would actually like to meet other Violent Femmes fans. I
have to admit that at first I didn’t like El Destroy but after
listening to their mini CD I actually think that some of their tracks
are pretty good. I also would like any information about their agent
information. I want to make an independent film and want to puchase
the rights to one or two of Brian Ritchie’s solo album songs. If
anyone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated. I know I
can’t hope for getting another drum stick from these shows but I know
they are going to kick ass. If they play mosh pit and berate the
people moshing during this song it will all be worth it.
RE: Hard Rock Live
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
did anyone catch the femmes on hard rock live. i caught the very last
of it. i saw them play sleepwalkin and American music. i wish i had
known about them being on and i would have watched it all. i just
happened to catch them by channel surfing. also in Columbus only a few
stores are carrying freak magnet what a shame. it took me 3 stores to
find it. i am glad to hear about the mp3 thing I will check it out. The
viva album only has a few songs I don’t currently own.

Rudykitten

-Pat. Says: Two and a half songs. That’s all vh1 aired. I never had
anything against the Cure, but their set was B-O-R-I-N-G

RE: Freak Magnet
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
you’ve all heard the new album i take it? it’s been out for a few
weeks here in australia and i’ve got to say, there is *no* way i’m
going to buy this album! (it’s terrible) i’ll continue to let it grow
on me (as unlikely as it is), this album is *no* New Times! 😉 It is a
very poor attempt at hitting the teenage first femmes album angst
market?
have other people heard this album? what do you all think?
Prices
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just wanted to give my two cents about something that bothers me about
one of my favorite bands.

YOU JUST SHOULDN’T CHARGE $25.00 !!!!

THAT DOESN’T ROCK !!!!!! at all

I think that ticket prices like that severly limit access. It’s bad
enough that I have to deal with Frat boys at VF shows who want to hear
“that one Violent Femmes song” Now the younger crowd with less cash
(who, by the way, are where the real heart and soul fans form) are
being alienated. I’m not in that younger crowd any more, but I’m still
not going to spend that kind of cash. Or at least not spend that cash
and keep my level of respect for the spirit of VF music constant.

$10.00 should be an upper limit. Take a hint from bands like Fugazi
and other Dischord bands and charge $6.00 for two bands.

But, I understand that they are trying to maybe be a little more
independent of record company bullshit and need cash. I fear that this
money grab may affect more hard-core fans like me here-to-forward if it
continues, though. Normally, I would go to DC next week and see the
Femmes, like I do whenever they are up there (like the last say 5
times), this time however…. I am going to pass.

-Pat. Says: I think the fault lies more heavily on the shoulders of the
venues, and on TM for taking their cut. Sure, you might
get to see a band like Fugazi for like $6.00 (Really?
tell me where, and I’m there). But then the venue will
make up any loss they perceive by hiking up the price of
tix for more well-known bands, and let’s face it, you’re
going to find more people who know the Violent Femmes than
who know Fugazi. If I’m just full of hot air, let me know,
but that’s how I always thought the business was run: The
VF charge a venue a set price, and the venue decides how
much to charge the audience.
Discuss amongst yourselves.
