The Quote Of The Day:

In this world of wreckage I look above
Help me Lord, help me understand
What it means to be a boy, what it means to be a man

Femmes in London
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Femmes were excellent at the London Palais last Monday.
It was a larger venue than the last time I saw them, so this time they
were accompanied by some of the Horns Of Dilema, including Sigmund
Snopek III and a guest appearance from a guy who played on Dark Side Of
The Moon.
They played a few too many songs off the new album for my linking
(about 7!). The songs are good but I haven’t had the album long enough
for them to grow on me properly yet.
Gordan made a mistake in the middle of Sleepwalkin’, which he seemed
to find ironic as it is apparently to be the first single.
He said that it must be “fear of success”!
He then said they would try playing the second single to make up for
it. This is apparently going to be All I Want.
All in all I like the new album a lot.
I guess even A Story is an interesting experiment. At least it’s the
last track so it’s easy to give it a miss if you can’t face it that
day!
El Destroyo
I was just told that El Destroyo will be opening for VF for most – if
not all – of the American dates on the Femmes current tour!! A
designated opener?! The same in each city?!? Egads! Does this mean
we’ll have to qualify this as an official quote/unquote TOUR?!? I
don’t know what to think about this! Could action figures and life
size pin-up posters be far behind?
Well it ain’t Rolling Stone but…
Last night I was standing in line at the grocery store flipping through
the Oscar Issue of People Magazine(April 10 issue) looking at all those
Hollywood honeys all sparkly and fluffy and feeling downright out of it
in my jeans and berks when what to my envying eyes should appear but
the words FREAK MAGNET! Freak Magnet is People’s “ALBUM CHOICE” of the
week!
FREAK MAGNET
Violent Femmes (Beyond)
Neither a Femme nor prone to violence, band auteur Gordon Gano is an
endearingly quirky songwriter (best known as composer of 1983’s
“Blister in the Sun”) and perpetual adolescent whose voice is still
cracking after all these years.
It short and sweet and frankly I probably would have missed it
altogether but for its position right next to a picture of Patti Smith
and an review of her new – and I must say – fabulous album Gung Ho.
Anyway it’s been a good week for me already – Femmes wise. The review
in people last night and I just noticed on eBay that there is a boot
2CD set from VF’s 4/3/00 show for sale! Rock on!
