Has anybody kept in touch with Neil Fahey? He was the originator of
this newsletter. The past three issues to him have been returned as
undeliverable, and unless I can find another email address for him, he
will have to be deleted from the subscriber list.

Silo Show Review
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What a great show. I had the best time at this show then I think I did
at any other show. (Well, except for down in WV when Deana and I were
gettin’ jiggy with it.) Anyway, wasn’t even sure that I was going to
make it. The day before everyone backed out, but my father graciously
agreed to take me. Even though he had to work at 7:30 this morning.
We got there around 8:30 and no one was on yet. Carmaig De Forest
opened and did a really good set. (At least I thought so although the
whole time my father looked like his head was going to explode.) Then
after him the Femmes came on. IT was the best show I have ever seen
them put on and the crowd was really good. Gordon made a comment that
this was the oldest crowd they had played in front of ever and that he
thought all the people his age had day jobs and were to busy to come to
shows like this. Everything was laid back and really mellow. I was even
able to go get a drink in the middle of the set and get my spot in the
front row back. Another difference I noticed is that there wasn’t
anyone screaming “I LOVE YOU GORDON!” Instead they were yelling, “WE
NEED RITCHIES!” I’m not really sure why it was plural. Maybe they
were so drunk by the time the Femmes came out, they were actually
seeing 3 or 4 Brians. Or maybe they just want him to produce another
heir to the Ritchie empire… I don’t know. Also the girls standing
next to me kept singing all the wrong parts of the songs at the wrong
times. So according to them “Prove My Love” starts out “Special
favors…” not “Just last night…” Someone needs to tell Gordon he’s
singing it wrong. I can’t remember the whole set list so I’ll just name
the songs that stand out.
Never Tell: this is my favorite song off of Hallowed Ground so I love
when they place this live.
Telephone Book/Faith: Guy was on bass, Brian was on a little Thunder
drum set and Gordon was on guitar of course. They had to start this
song three times, I think it was because Guy didn’t come in when he was
supposed to. Anyway it started as Telephone Book and somehow mutated
into Faith. When they went into the bridge Gordon said, “We’re going
into the bridge and we’re staying their for a while. The bridge is
right here and stays right here.” At which point he turns to Guy and
holds up his guitar neck to show which cords he was playing. Guy’s eyes
got really big and all he said was “I’m not going anywhere.”
Jesus Walking on the Water: Gordon on the fiddle, Brian on banjo, Guy
on drums and that Ray guy on bass. This was the first time I’ve seen
Gordon play the fiddle so it was cool. Although when he picked up the
fiddle he almost knocked his guitar over so there was this mad dash to
keep it from hitting the floor.
Good Feeling: The only reason this song stands out is because everyone
had been chattering through the whole song and Brian felt a need to see
exactly who it was “I’d like to see a show of hands of all those people
that were talking through the last song.” Hands go up and there are a
couple of whistles. “You should all be ashamed for talking through the
most beautiful ballad in the history of Western culture…” Straight in
to D. M. F. D. a song which my father found very amusing.
The Pennsylvania State Anthem: Gordon played the beginning of this and
then asked if anyone recognized. A resounding “NO” came from the
audience. He then turns to the back of the stage and then comes back
with a little book of state anthems. And starts sing it. “Does that
sound familiar?” “NO” then he said something else which I didn’t quite
hear and asked “Does anyone know what I’m talking about or better yet
does anyone even care?” “NO” “OK, forget it then.” Hey don’t look at
me I grew up in western and up state NY. So there is no way in hell
that I’d know what the PA State anthem is.
As I said a great show I had a great time and so did my dad. Which is
really funny because he hates everything…that must be where I get it
from. I guess bad attitude is hereditary…..
Eugene Info Needed
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hello! I need some info from anyone in Eugene or Bellingham area. I
live near LA, California, where Violent Femmes are not playing before
their international tour dates. So I’m planning on flying up to Oregon
or Washington to catch the April 4 or April 8 shows. Can anyone give
detailed information on either show? What is the set up like at U of
Eugene? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx, Bonnie
