The Return of American Music
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Subscribers,
Those of you who have been long-time subscribers are aware of the
constant problems I had been having with my computer. About two weeks
ago, something lobotomized it, to such an extent that I could only
occasionally get online after hours of chanting and the sacrifice of
small farm animals. I spent countless hours trying to fix whatever
went wrong, even purchasing a copy of Norton System Works, which itself
froze up constantly. I at last admitted defeat, declared the old
dinosaur FUBAR (acronym:Fucked up beyond repair), and ordered a brand
new computer.
I have since been working diligently to retrieve as much from the old
computer as possible and setting up the new one. I think I found every
post, but if there are more, I will post them in the next issue,
scheduled to be sent on Friday.
So dear readers, I am at last back online, and think I this issue
includes most, if not all, of the posts I have received since the last
issue. By now, many of you probably have an official copy of Freak
Magnet, and/or are preparing to attend an upcoming concert, so let
the discussions resume with a vengeance!
Victor Delorenzo on TV Tonight
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Earlier today I saw a comercial that Victor Delorenzo is going to be on
the show “Sunday Night” tonight (March 5) at 10:35 on chanel 4, WTMJ
out of Milwaukee. I didn’t know if you knew that, or not.

P.S. Would you happen to know if the VH1 show with the violent femmes
is going to be played again, or when?

-Pat. Says: I’m sorry if my enforced absence from the cyberworld
caused Milwaukee subscribers to miss this show.
As far as I know, VH1 has completed its Cure/VF showings.
Two and a half freakin songs. What a letdown.

Femmes Get Fucked
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Am I alone in feeling that the Femmes got screwed on VH1’s “Hard Rock
Live”? They got about 18 minutes of the show, minus commercials,
leaving only time for three songs, while the Cure played about a
half-dozen songs that droned on for 40 minutes.
CMJ New Music Report
Inventors of acoustic punk, long-standing teamsters of youth culture,
stalwart CMJ perennials, the greatest thing to come outta Wisconsin
since the Green Bay Packers, cheese and cheap beer — to the
college-rock universe, the Violent Femmes are all this and a bag of
salt ‘n’ vinegar potato chips. Freak Magnet, the trio’s seventh studio
album, is its most consistent set of new material since 1989’s 3.
Released in conjunction with Viva Wisconsin, the Femmes’
career-spanning live album of recent hometown gigs, the new record is
a testament to the group’s classic sound and a summary of its history.
Loud and fast. Electric and acoustic. Quirky and angst-ridden. Retro
and contemporary. Country death and American music. Freak Magnet adds
it all up into a big blister of folklore brilliance that even the sun
couldn’t eclipse.
Scandinavian Defense
Hiya.
Since I`m from sweden I gotta defend those mad cows, and the food we
eat.
Made a trip to the states, and I admit I loved it.
But the food there is also weird, if you can buy roadscrap alligator
in a can, don`t come here and complain about mad cows, this was only a
case in ireland, denmark.
BUT NOT IN SWEDEN, GET IT.
If the femmes will come over I will personally guide them around to
get something decent to eat.
This girl Wanda currently did not visit sweden, or I guess she must
have had a bad experience.
Talking about breakfest by the way, U don`t eat breakfest over there
in the states, I learned by travelling around for 6 weeks on the east
coast from boston to the keys. By car that is :).
U got scrambled eggs that is all, and your coffee is black water.
Enough of that, just wanted to clear some things out.
And that park in Norway sounds interseting, if u ever visit greece or
any ancient history connected countries, u will see similar statues
also….
So get the femmes over to me, and they will happily be excepted with
all my wishes to give them a nice stay in Sweden.
Tell them we got Blondes *LOL*
Hello,
It’s too bad i didn’t get this about two weeks ago. i went to Oslo
and would have loved to see 400 acres of naked people doing naked
things. But no matter what you think about Scandanavian food, English
food is always worse. What i wouldn’t give for a Wendy’s….
Last year when the Violent Femmes came to London, i had the
pleasure to meet Brian and Guy, (Gordon had the flu, i think). And for
all of you who were wondering, Brian can play more instruments than the
artist formerly known as Prince. Heh.
Catch you on the flipside,
~mary xlii.
-Pat. Says: UM, before the British subscribers shoot off indignant
letters of protest, let me say that I found the desserts
in the UK completely heavenly, and often dream of clotted
cream…and my life was not complete till I discovered
Stilton.
BTW, I got food poisoning at Wendy’s..don’t go there
anymore!
Video Clips
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you go to http://www.mtv.com and click on the Violent Femmes (from
the “find a band P-Z,”) you can download three femme video clips. The
three clips are “Machine,” “I Held Her In My Arms,” and “Children Of
The Revolution.”
There’s also music news on the band from the Mtv News Gallery. It’s
old stuff, but still cool. I was also wondering where I can get a
copy of that video compilation. I’m in the Maryland. Thanks and have
fun everyone.

-Pat. Says: I still have to hear back from a couple of volunteer
distributers, and write to a couple of new ones,
assuming I can still find their emailamongst the wreckage
of that damned old 100Mhz Gateway.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Videos
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Is anyone selling the femmes colberation video, if so how much is it?

Mpdrum95

-Pat. Says: You will only have to pay the cost of blank video and
postage. Gratuities accepted, esp. boots

Louise Attaque
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi all,
Some news that could maybe interest someone:
Last monday there was a Louise Attaque concert here in Belgium (in the
same place as VF in one week, what a month!).
They are not as good as VF but the encore were the best in my life…
I hoped they sung a VF song (since VF sung a Louise Attaque one in
Paris) but few people know VF here.
On the new CD of Louise Attaque, there is a nice photo of Gordon Gano.
On their website they call him “Flash Gordon”…
Bye,
Alexandre
