um.. i called the wayne st. student activities board and asked about
the show last nite. unfortunately the rude man on the other end
informed me that the show was strictly for students and staff with
i.d.

even bothered to write back. I don’t think I like that

Age Limit at Bohagers?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just to let you know that I’m hopefully going to the VF show at Bohagers
in Baltimore too..hopefully I’ll get my friends to come. Does anybody
know how to get tickets — oh and is the age limit a big problem? I’m
only 15 – but once somebody who worked there told one of my friends that
if you looked like you could be 16, then you would be alright…
I hope so…..
-Joanna
-Pat. Says: Dunno. Can anyone help these two people? For that matter,
I’d appreciate age info about all these club shows.
Seattle Experiences
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi there!
OK, so I went to the show in Seattle. Aside from having a shitty seat,
the show was freaking amazing. This was my fourth Femmes show, not
quite my favorite, but pretty damn close. Oh, there was one thing that
made this show stand out….. I MET GORDON AND BRIAN! I did the ultra
groupy thing and hung out by the bus for about 45 minutes after the
show and they came out. I am ashamed to admit that I am one of the
retards who gets star struck. I couldn’t think of one clever thing to
say. All I could do was shakily ask for autographs with tears in my
eyes. They were very nice and compliant. They were actually laughing
at me for being so nervous. The only thing that I could say to them was
“Thank you” over and over and over again. I’m such a dork. Oh well,
they didn’t seem to mind. They were totally friendly. So now I have
a framed ticket stub with two beautiful autographs hanging on my wall.
I can finally die happy! 🙂

The Seattle Show
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
hello……though i’ve been on the list since early january…..i have
yet to take the time to write anything in, for one reason or another….
but…….i did go to the seattle show, and i now feel compelled to
write something……so here i go…….
the show itself was amazing……..they played everything that i had
hoped they would (with the exception of ‘look like that’ and ‘i saw you
in the crowd)………the horn section was really impressive………
the only downside was a lot of the audience…….
i understand that most of the crowd just gets really crazy and excited
when they hear the femmes play, cause there is so much energy………
……but moshing? that i just don’t get…….
at the start of the show i was really close to the stage and was really
pumped cause i could see everything so great…….then the crowd
started moshing, something that i personally hate…….so, i was
forced out of close range and had to stand towards the back……
this didn’t stop me from dancing my toukas off and having a great time
though……..
i saw a lot of people getting very pissed off at the moshing and a lot
of testosterone driven guys gleeming at the fact that they were “fucking
shit up” (a direct quote from one of the many sweat ridden, shirtless
wonders that passed me by on there way to “the pit”)
i know that not all moshers and crowd surfers are like this, but a lot
are, and it really bugs me…….
oh well…….
after the show i met brian ritchie and gordan gano…….they were very
nice and signed my ticket stub…….mr. gano has a very cool hat…..
he might want to invest in a razor, but it’s o.k……after all, he’s
gordan gano for god’s sake……
adios,
matt
p.s…….if you heard somebody yell “he said dance, not mosh” really
loudly after dance m.f. dance, then that was me…….
RE: Dumb DMFD
The song Dance Motherfucker Dance was written by a guy named Voot
Warnings. In fact three guys share the royalties on that tune.
Voot Warnings, Glenn Rehse, John Frankovich. John and Glenn were the
prime members of Plasticland a band that Brian Ritchie was in before
the femmes days. Brian is on one single from that band. I think it is
called flower scene/color appreciation. If you find this single buy it.
It is a good record and very rare. I have seen them going for forty
dollars and more.
The first album that Voot ever put out, Platinum, has his version DMFD
on it. Voot has made some good money off the royalties to that song.
Especially since it appeared on the Woodstock record and the ADD IT UP
CD.
Check it out at my site
http://www.charmrec.com
I have got an MP3 of another voot tune on that site. check out my
sounds page.
And you can get the Platinum album there as well as the solo work of
John Frankovich. These people had an influence on the way the femmes
sound came about so it may be worth checking out.
If you want the Voot CD , I can offer the it for $9.00 to members of
this list. That is $3.00 off . Just say you saw it here in your E-mail
message.
see you soon
Shocking! How can you all dislike Dance Motherfucker Dance, or Black
Girls, for that matter? Black Girls is my favorite VF song, because
it’s so great to dance to, and Dance Motherfucker Dance is great for
dancing, too. Or moshing with the walls, as the case often is in my
house. 😉 I have heard both live, and they are even better, even if
you’re apparently stuck in the middle of the boring part of the crowd
where everybody kinda sways and looks at you funny if you actually try
to dance! Well, anyway, I’m off to school.
Thank you all for your input. I now have a new respect for the song,
but I still think it sucks. I guess I just have to see the Femmes live.
RE: Johnny Tabs…Dumb DMFD
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
>Do you know where I can get the tabs to the last song on “Add it up” I
>think it is called “Johnny”?

i think the reason there aren’t any guitar tabs it that its JUST chords
(i think they were D and Em, I’d have to check). The somewhat
complicated part where we would need tabs would be the bass lines,
which I have no idea how to play. Can Any bassists on the list maybe
help????

>In regards to “Dance MF Dance”, it is probably gotta one of the most
>horrible songs I’ve ever heard, both on album and LIVE!

You see, DMFD isn’t supposed to be a deep maning full song to the effect
of “see my ships” or anything. Its a drunken, party, go-crazy song and
I think its a FUN song. After doing serious stuff for a long time, I’m
sure most poeple have at one time or another had an urge to just scream
like a drunken hobo about nothing. I agree with it. The song’s got
its merit.

I Wasn’t Screaming
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I decided to write today in response to that little comment “the boys
are always great to chat with (especially when the teenage girls stop
screaming).” Has anyone stopped to think for a second that there are
quite a few teenage subscribers to this mailing list? I am 17 and was
offended by that comment and would appreciate it very much if no further
generalizations like that are made. My friends and I have met, hung out
with, and conversed with the band. We were not screaming our heads off
or acting like idiots. I don’t mean to sound rude, but I’m just trying
to stand up for their teenage fans.
Danica
-Pat. Says: I am sure no offense was meant.
Well kids as long as we are on the subject of good songs that sound
even better live… let me just say that Country Death Song is also
incredible live… agree? disagree?
I am doing a feature for my composition class. (high school) I want to
do a some type review on the femmes. So, if there is anyone who would
like to be interviewed please e-mail me. This report will go no further
than the classroom. If you would like I can use a fake name or whatever
fits you. All I need is for you to answer some simple questions like,
when did you first hear the femmes, why you like them, bla bla bla…
(You can tell I just love school so much!) Please e-mail me if you are
interested. Thanks so much.
Last night (Feb. 3, 1998) I saw the Indigo Girls at the Hard Rock Hotel
in Las Vegas. (The same place I saw the Femmes a week before.)
During the encore, they played a few songs with opening band (Danielle
Howle and the Tantrums), including “Closer to Fine” and the Femmes’
“Blister in the Sun”!
Their rendition of it was pretty good and the crowd loved it!
Is anyone compiling a list of bands that have played Femmes songs? If
so, maybe you can mail it to me and I’ll add it somewhere on the
