Falls Fest News
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Found out on the New Times Club that the Falls Fest performance was
shortened; seems someone from the crowd threw a bottle or something at
Gordon, causing the band to leave the stage for about 15 mins.
What is it with that? Why the increase of things thrown at Gordon
lately?
BTW, the simulcast apparently fizzled out, but hold on to that URL,
because they may release pictures and audio and/or video within the
next month or two.
This is in response to Ian Keiser’s question about the theremin that
Brian plays on Viva Wisconsin. You can hear the theremin at the end of
Kiss Off.
Also, my brother and I were the only two people to see all six of the
shows for the Viva Wisconsin album. On the back of the cover of the
Viva Wisconsin album, the itinerary lists are wrong. They both list the
days as Sunday when they were both Friday shows. I thought this is
weird that they would have the wrong day…who did the proof reading?
Hey Pat! My picture’s up on the website! It was taken backstage at
Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel in Providence, RI, directly after I played with
them backstage. It was taken either by Alvin Lipsett or Michael Spoor.
Sorry for not remembering, but I PLAYED WITH THE FEMMES, FOR PETE’S
SAKE! Anyway, hope everyone is enjoying the holidays the same way i
am…by dancing around the apartment to viva wisconsin!
Brian’s Century Picks
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel ran a story on Dec. 30 where they had
various Milwaukee celebs pick their top 10 albums of the century…
imagine my surprise when one of the interviewees turned out to be our
very own Brian Richie (since the JS seems to hate the Femmes so much I
never would’ve guessed they’d be included…). Anyway, here is Brian’s
top ten, for those interested:

1. “Cesar Franck,” Cesar Franck
2. “King of the Delta Blues,” Robert Johnson
3. “Luke The Drifter,” Hank Williams Sr.
4. “Das Andes,” Pierre Henry
5. “Live in Greenwich Village,” Albert Ayler
6. “The Madcap Laughs,” Syd Barrett
7. “The Heliocentric Worlds,” Sun Ra
8. “Pink Moon,” Nick Drake
9. “Marquee Moon,” Television
10. “Irish Heartbeat,” Van Morrison and the Chieftains

and no, in case you’re wondering, none of the 11
people interviewed picked a Femmes album as being
among their top 10…

Happy New Year everyone!!

>I think Louise Attaque came out with a new CD, but my French isn’t
>good enough to be sure.

Louise Attaque’s second album will be released on January the 18th.
(in Europe at least). My French is nice and my English is (slowly)
improving…
http://www.louiseattaque.com/ (in French)

There are some live MP3
(http://www.louiseattaque.com/index/mp3_3.html)
and also a picture of Gordon with Gaetan from Louise Attaque.

On the site, they say +/-:
Gordon Gano and Warren Bruleigh are inseparable and they supervised
the recording of the new album in London.
Dr Gano, assisted by Mr Warren et Robbie Adams did the mixing.

And as Frank (frank.dhooghe) anounced, VF came to Brussels,
Belgium(!) where the first album of Louise Attaque was recorded. That’s
very nice, this time I did not need to go to Paris or Dublin.

Best wishes to all,

Alexandre

A funny Femmes Song
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My friend just got me this cool CD called “Saturday Morning Cartoons’
Greatest Hits,” and it has 19 cartoon theme songs or songs featured in
a cartoon episode sung by famous bands. One of the songs is ‘Eep Opp
Ork Ah-Ah (Means I Love You)’ from ‘The Jetsons,’ and it’s sung by the
Violent Femmes, which was a very cool surprise since the Femmes are my
favorite band. It’s a really funny song, and I just thought I’d mention
it b/c I wasn’t sure if any of you knew about it. Or maybe you all know
about it, and I’m just pretty ignorant. Well, that’s it. I hope you
all had a Happy New Year.
